Town of Veazie Planning Board
Minutes of February 19, 2004
Present: Board Members: Chris Cronan (chairman), John Manter, Suzanne Malis-Anderson, Terry Studley, David Wardrop, Harold Pinkham
Town Officials: Allan Thomas (CEO), John Ellis (Asst. CEO), Beckie-Jo Woods (Deputy Clerk)
Representatives: Terry DeWan, Amy Segal (Community Masters Planners)
Called to order @5:30 pm, by Chris Cronan
-Terry DeWan stated that the meetings earlier in the day with Tom Davis, Barney Silver, and Stan MacMillian were very productive. Terry mentioned that each developer stated that they are willing to discuss future planning with the Town.
-The consultants explained to the Board that may different views of development were discussed in the earlier meetings. Views such as, cluster subdivisions, apartments, condos, townhouses, and assisted living facilities.
-Amy Segal stated that she received a proposal that will outline strategy and changes in the Town’s ordinance, from Mark Eyerman from Planning Decisions. She will contact Mark about attending the next workshop.
-The Board discussed many different approaches to preserving land.
1. Raise the money to buy the land or portions of the land in Town
2. Take a fresh look at the zoning ordinance through out the Town.
3. Define the conservation areas and make them a priority.
4. Partner up with developers to possibly develop a plan similar to the partnership the Town has with Penquis Cap (Graham School Housing).
-Terry Studley mentioned contacting residents of Veazie to get ideas and conduct neighborhood meetings.
-Chris Cronan stated that having developers conduct a habitat study would be helpful to the Town.
-Amy Segal stated that she would like more information about the surrounding Towns for the next meeting which is scheduled for approximately 4 weeks with Mark Eyerman attending.
