Minutes 05/05/05

        The Board of Selectmen held a special meeting on this date at 1:30 p.m. at the Stonington Town Hall.  Present were First Selectman William S. Brown, Selectman Stephen E. Bessette Selectman Peter L. Balestracci was absent.  

(1)     Call to Order
        Mr. Brown called the meeting to order at 1:35 p.m.

(2)     Set Call for Special Town Meeting on the Budget and Date for Referendum/Adjourned Special Town Meeting
        A letter dated May 5, 2005 was received from Glenn Frishman, Chairman, Board of Finance.  The Board of Finance held a special meeting on May 4, 2005 and made budget adjustments after the failed referendum.  Their recommendation is to send a budget totaling $48,110,065 with a proposed 20.22 mil rate to the Board of Selectmen for Town Meeting.
        A motion was made by Mr. Bessette, seconded by Mr. Brown and unanimously voted to adopt the following Resolution to Call a Special Town Meeting:
“RESOLVED, that pursuant to Section 3-2 of the Charter, the Board of Selectmen calls a Special Town Meeting for Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. at the Stonington High School Cafeteria as outlined in the Notice of Special Town Meeting that will be attached to the Minutes of this meeting as Appendix “A”, which Notice is hereby approved.”
A motion was made by Mr. Bessette, seconded by Mr. Brown to adopt the following Resolution to Set Date for Referendum and Adjourned Special Town Meeting:  
“BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, that pursuant to Section 9-1 of the Charter, the Board of Selectmen sets the date for Referendum and Adjourned Special Town Meeting for Monday, May 23, 2005 as outlined in the Notice of Referendum and Adjourned Special Town Meeting that will be attached to the Minutes of this meeting as Appendix “B”, which Notice is hereby approved.”

(4)             Adjourn
        There being no further business to come before the Board, the special meeting was adjourned at 1:39 p.m.
