Present: Joseph R. Becker – Chairman, Leroy C. Clark - Vice Chairman, Douglas C. Briggs. Cherilyn A. Bulger and Sheila H. Dibb were absent.
Mr. Becker opened the meeting at 6:35 pm
Purpose of the meeting: to discuss police, fire and dispatch budgets for fiscal year 2010.
Police: Chief Baril explained that $5,000 was spent last month on maintenance. There is no extra money in the budget for fiscal year 2009. Fiscal year 2010 (no money). Cruiser #4 is used for transportation and road duty only. The other three cruisers each have 80,000 miles; a new cruiser is needed. Discussion was had about having the highway department mechanics do the maintenance on the cruisers. Also, discussed the possibility of replacing four part-timers with two full-timers. Mr. Briggs will contact the union (Troy Chauvin) to discuss holding wages for 2010 (4%).
**Level funding Animal Control Officer budget.
Fire: Discussed using grant money to build up budget ($113,000). Help Hubbardston regionalize ($10,000). Oakham pays Rutland $8,500 a year for use of communications.
Choose union representatives from select board for Fire Department.
Regional Selectmen’s meeting on Thursday, February 5, 2009 in Paxton.
COA meeting on February 3, 2009 at 7 pm. Mr. Clark & Mr. Becker will attend.
Michael Pantos from the Wachusett Regional District School Committee came before the Board and expressed the hope of level funding for 2010. Discussed transportation cuts and the question of whether merging special ed students with non-special ed students would be possible, thereby saving $35,000. Discussed a stimulus package for supplies. Selectmen to meet with school representatives and finance committee before next school committee meeting.
Bay Path increased 3.5%

Mr. Briggs moved to adjourn. Mr. Clark seconded. Vote unanimous. The meeting adjourned at 9:50 pm.
