Cold Weather Tips
The North Beach Department of Public Works offers the following tips for residents to prepare for cold and freezing weather:

  • Protect water lines from freezing in your home. Check crawl space vents and make sure they are closed. Block off any holes or gaps to keep cold air from entering if possible. Check sump pumps and make sure discharge line is clear.
  • Turn off, drain and disconnect outside hose bibs.
  • Open cabinet doors to allow heat to reach pipes if the are located on an outside wall. Make sure any piples that are located on an outside wall are insulated.
  • In case of loss of heat for any reason, leave faucets trickling until heat is restored.
  • Check on your friends and neighbors.
  • Take special precautions with outdoor pets.
