What is Dragon Boating?
Dragon boating is today's fastest-growing international team water sport. The End Hunger Dragon Boat Festival will feature boats of 16 paddlers and 1 drummer in a competition to paddle across the finish line with the fastest time.

What is the purpose of the End Hunger Dragon Boat Festival?
· To bring awareness to the reality of hunger in our local community.
· To feed and support hungry families by raising money for End Hunger In Calvert County.
· To have fun, grow community, and strengthen team unity.

Where is the End Hunger Dragon Boat Festival taking place?
The festival takes place at the North Beach Boardwalk.

Do you have to be a paddler to attend the festival?
No! The beauty of this event is that spectators have just as much fun as the paddlers! Come, cheer on the teams and visit the local food and craft vendors.

Is the End Hunger Dragon Boat Festival family friendly?
Yes! The End Hunger Dragon Boat Festival is an event your entire family can enjoy. We will have a Family Zone filled with fun activities for the kids as well as local food vendors and craft vendors.

How can I race in a dragon boat?
You must be a part of a team. Team Captains organize and recruit its team members and are responsible for all communication to their team. To become a team Captain please download the team registration packet and follow the proper steps outlined within the packet.

Can you help me find a team?
Unfortunately, no.  Participating teams need to have all members recruited prior to registration.

Is my registration tax deductible?
Yes! End Hunger In Calvert County is a 501(c)(3) organization. Our Federal Tax ID# is 80-0456174. All contributions are tax deductible to the amount permitted by law.

If the festival gets cancelled, do I get a refund?
The purpose of the Dragon Boat Festival is to raise money for End Hunger In Calvert County. In the event that the festival is cancelled no refunds will be given.

Who should I contact with questions about my team practice and race times?
Your Team Captain will have all the information to make your experience great. If you are a Team Captain, you are responsible for all communication between festival directors and your team.

How long is the race course?
The length of the course is 200 meters and each race will last between one - two minutes depending on the speed and rhythm of the team. (This is subject to change as the course is set up at the discretion of the festival organizers and 22dragon’s).

Is Dragon Boating safe?
Yes; however, with any outdoor activity, there is some risk involved. Three safety boats will be on the course during the entire End Hunger Dragon Boat Festival.

When are Team Captain Meetings?
If you are a Team Captain, you are required to attend at least one of the following Team Captain meetings: o Friday, June 7th, 7:00PM at Chesapeake Church in Classroom 6 or o Friday, June 14th, 7:00PM at Chesapeake Church in Classroom 6, 6201 Solomons Island Rd, Huntingtown, MD 20639

What if my team has no experience in dragon boating?
No experience necessary! Each team will be provided with a qualified steersperson from 22Dragon’s who will give instruction and steer the boat. We encourage every team and paddler to take full advantage of the scheduled practice time.

How do we win the Dragon Boat Festival?
Each team will race at least twice and the fastest times will race a third time in the finals. The start and finish of the race will be controlled by race officials who will be using an electronic timing system along with video replay. The timer will stop when the Dragon Boat's nose or the bow of the boat breaks the plane of the finish line. All crew members must be in the boat at the end of the race or the boat will be recorded as "Did Not Finish" (DNF).

When will find out when we race?
The race schedule will be posted the morning of the event  - Saturday, June 22nd. It is important to arrive by 8:30AM for the Opening Ceremony and to find out when your boat will be racing.  Official times will be announced and results will be posted on the scoreboard.

What can I do to prepare for race day?
Follow your team leaders instructions and be on time for your teams scheduled practice. Watch this training video on proper paddling technique: VIDEO.
