Newton Board of Selectmen
Date: Friday, September 21, 2012
Location: Newton Town Hall, Selectmen’s Office
Public Meeting
Call to Order, Roll Call Vote
Chairman McCarthy opened the meeting at 8:20am. In attendance were Selectmen McCarthy and Melvin. The meeting was transcribed and typed by Selectman McCarthy.
Meeting was to discuss the Manifest for the Recreation Commission pertaining to the fair event being held at the Memorial School in Newton on Saturday 9/22/12. The Requisition from the Recreation Commission was for the following items:
1. Zoo Creatures: $300.00;
2. Market Basket: $66.67 (small pies for pie eating contest);
3. Taylor Rental: $125.00 for the dunk tank
4. Wal-Mart: $220.00 (for prizes for contests)
5. PTO Memorial School: $500.00 (donation to PTO)
It was discussed that using tax payer’s money for a private entity like the PTO was a problem. Chairman McCarthy called Sue DiMercurio (Chair of Recreation) to question the PTO donation and to explain the issue with a donation to a private entity. Sue said fine, she understands and asked that we approve the others items.
Motion made by Melvin to approve all the items requested, except the PTO donation. It was further stated in motion that payment would be made once an invoice was received from the venders, unless the vendors would accept payment from the Town Credit Card approved by the Town Administrator. Second by McCarthy. All in favor
Meeting Adjourned at 9:00am
Respectfully Submitted, Trisha McCarthy
