NEWTON BOARD OF SELECTMEN

PUBLIC MEETING
- Call to Order, Roll Call Vote
Chairman McCarthy called the meeting to order at 4:12pm. In attendance were Chairman Trisha J. McCarthy, Selectman Charles R. Melvin, Sr. and Office Manager Mary B. Winglass. Minutes were transcribed and typed by Office Manager Winglass.

- Cont review of Grant Writing Training
The Board discussed the option of sending Selectman Ray Thayer to grant writing training at the Epping Fire Department on April 23-24. Thayer has asked to attend this training and yet the tuition for this two day workshop is $350.00. After reviewing the budget, the following motion was made;
Chairman McCarthy motioned, if room is available, to approve sending Raymond Thayer to training at the Epping Fire Department on April 23-24 for a two day course on grant writing to be paid from the training line item in the Financial Administration Budgeting, Planning and Analysis budget line item #4150457. Second by Selectman Melvin. Motion passed.
- NBSA Application for Permit - Greenie Park
The Board reviewed an email from Matt Muskrat dated April 4th with an attached application for permit from Newton Baseball and Softball Association (NBSA) for the use of Greenie Park. Office Manager Winglass has been emailing with Matt asking for a copy of the schedule and what Baseball is covering for trash pickup.
Matt responded with the April schedule for that was all that is completed at this time. Matt added t hat the coaches are responsible for ensuring that the dug-out areas around each field are cleaned up and trash put into the garage cans after each game and practice. Based upon the April schedule, practices are scheduled Monday through Saturday each week.
The Board reviewed the Town Parks and Recreation Areas Ordinance adopted on June 19, 2006 and asked to invite NBSA to the next scheduled meeting to discuss options regarding the use of the property.
- Other Business, Sign Manifests, Requisitions, Abatements, Tax Credits, Correspondence and Appointments
- The Board signed a Welfare Manifest in the amount of $925.00
- The Board signed a letter to Thomas and Carrie Jackman
- The Board signed the Payroll Manifest for the pay period of March 25th to April 7th
- The Board discussed the recent article in the newspaper regarding the Ferrara case
- The Board reviewed a letter from the Department of Revenue Administration requiring a copy of the 2010 yearend audit.
Chairman McCarthy closed the meeting at 5:45pm.
