June 29, 2010 Board of Selectmen Minutes
SELECTMEN’S PUBLIC MEETING

June 29, 2010

  • Call to Order
Chairman McCarthy opened the meeting at 6:02pm.  In attendance were Chairman Trisha J. McCarthy, Selectman Raymond D. Thayer and Office Manager Mary B. Winglass.  Minutes were transcribed and typed by Office Manager Winglass.

  • Introduction of Guests
  • Mr. William Friel, Glacial Energy Re: Cost Analysis
Mr. Bill Friel of Glacial Energy explained the proposal showing a cost savings of 13% by using Glacial Energy as the town’s electricity supplier.  When considering this option, Unitil would remain as the provider for the transmission of power to the town buildings for they own the power lines that carry electricity to properties and will continue to bill the town for the delivery of electricity at rates governed by the state.  The actual electricity would be supplied by Glacial Energy, an energy service company that shops for the best wholesale prices to keep the cost down.  The rate quoted by Glacial Energy is $0.0753 per kWh compared to Unitil’s rate of $0.0868 kWh shows the comparison for the projected 13% cost savings.

Some questions addressed were as follows;

Who would we call if the power goes out?  Until as they are the Utility Company.

How is the billing handled?  Both Unitil and Glacial Energy will bill the town for the services described above.

Who will maintain the lines and repair them if there is an outage or storm?  Unitil will for they are the responsible party for safety, reliability and the provider for the transmission of power.

Mr. Friel will forward to the town business references and the Town Administrator and Bookkeeper will be informed of this program to see if they have any questions or concerns.
