SELECTMEN’S SITE WALK MINUTES

September 18, 2008

The Newton Board of Selectmen held a SITE WALK on Thursday, September 18, 2008 starting at 5 PM. ~The Selectmen will meet with the Road Agent at the Smith Corner Road/Peaslee Crossing Road intersection to view the offsite improvements with Town Counsel and the Town Engineer. ~~~

Present:~ Chairman Robert S. Donovan, Jr., Selectman Trisha J. McCarthy, Selectman Raymond D Thayer, Road Agent Mike Pivero, Town Attorney Sumner Kalman and Mike Vignale, P.E. of KVPartners, LLC.  Having a quorum, Chairman Donovan called the site walk to order at 5:05pm.

Chairman Donovan started the meeting by explaining the reason for the meeting was to address concerns of the Road Agent regarding the completion of the intersection, and advice from Town Engineer and Town Attorney.

Road Agent Mike Pivero took over at this time by showing the existing approved plans that had been done by Altus Engineering.~ All aspects of the intersection were discussed including, intersection site distance, vehicle curve, road height, and stopping site distance.~ After much discussion it was decided that road stripping and additional signs will add to the safety of the intersection, while staying within the budget restraints the town has. In addition to that the pavement at the end of Smith Corner Road, will remain extended to the shoulder area as it currently is, (for safety reasons), instead of taking it away.~

The Town Attorney was asked if this would be okay and in the best interest of the town.~ Attorney Kalman said that this would be the way to go based on the current circumstances that we~have to deal with.

Chairmen Donovan made a motion to have the Town Engineer complete a written amendment that will be attached to the existing plans, stating that additional signs and stripping will be done, as well as the pavement to stay as it currently is, for the safety of the public at this intersection.  Selectmen Thayer seconded, seeing no further discussion, All in Favor.

Meeting adjourned at 6:12pm.

Respectfully submitted by

Selectman Trisha McCarthy
