Call to order
Chairman Rick Bailey called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm with the following members present: Rick Bailey, Nancy Slombo and Deb Holden and Bob Donovan, BOS ex officio. Minutes were recorded and transcribed by secretary, Lisa Babcock.
Also in attendance were Rick and Donna Labell.
Donation of Insect Repellent Wipes
Mr. and Mrs. Labell presented the Recreation Commission with a large box of insect repellent wipes. They also plan to provide 2 additional boxes. Bob Donovan will give the first box to NBSA for use at Greenie Park during baseball and softball games and practices.
Memorial Day Parade
Fred Dulsac of the Newton Junction Baptist Church asked if his Vacation Bible School group could march in the parade and carry a banner.
Babcock will contact Timberlane Regional High School to see if the marching band is interested in marching in the parade.
Donovan will contact the sheriff’s department, Newton Baseball and Softball and
Andy Morse about the sound system.
The Carriage Barn asked if 2 small horses with a carriage could participate. Slombo said they must provide a copy of the insurance binder and have a header on each horse. Donovan said they would need to provide someone to clean up after the horses and make sure they are not skittish with the sirens.
Donovan will check with NBSA to see if they have a singer who would do the National Anthem. Bailey said the Boy Scouts would serve the food. Babcock will contact the Girl Scouts. Babcock will go to the shed at Greenie Park and see what supplies are there.
A letter must be sent to the Police Department & Fire Department to see if anyone wants to march and also to get a police detail.
Bailey will check with the priest at Mary Mother of the Church for the invocation. He also asked the members to think about who could be the grand marshall.
Bailey said Mary Allen had suggested a cannon. Bailey said they should pass on the cannon since the horses will be there.
Slombo will get the flags.
Bailey moved to spend up to $300 out of Patriotic Events for food and flags, also to approve having the Carriage Barn small horses in the parade with insurance, a header for each horse and someone to clean up after them for the Memorial Day Parade, May 26th at 2:00 pm. Second by Donovan. Motion carried unanimously.
Good Old Days Song and Hat Show
Holden said the Hat Show has been booked for June 20th at 2:00 at Packer Meadows. She will get 2 or 3 kids to help pass out refreshments. Holden said she would do a flyer to pass out at Packer Meadows and will meet with Joy Potash to arrange to view the site.
Fall Fair/Road Race
The Commission reviewed draft letters for Road Race sponsors. Water stations and a first aid station will be needed. Check with Fire Department re: first aid.
Also needed: mile markers & volunteers to give the runners their time, t-shirts, registration forms and prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers for each age group. Recreation may also want to have signs printed up.
Babcock will ask the bookkeeper and treasurer how to handle the finances for the race.
Holden said she would ask Jon Holden to work on a logo for Recreation that could be included on the t-shirts.
Donovan asked Babcock to contact Mary or Nancy to reserve the tables for the fair.
Town Beach and Greenie Park Cleanup
Donovan will contact Streeter re: having a group of youngsters that need to do community service to do park & beach cleanup. Also, more trash barrels are needed at Greenie Park.
Bailey informed the Commission that he has been in contact with a company to get a bid on maintenance of the equipment at Greenie Park. He will schedule a time to meet with the company.

Bailey moved to adjourn at 10:10 pm. Second by Donovan. Motion carried unanimously.
