Call to order
Chairman Rick Bailey called the meeting to order at 7:45 pm with the following members present: Bob Donovan, BOS ex officio, Nancy Slombo and Deb Holden. Minutes were recorded and transcribed by secretary/alternate, Lisa Babcock.
Summer Schedule
Holden presented a draft of the summer schedule to be distributed at the elementary and middle schools. Holden will add the beach party and science camp and will look into adding Leo's Super Bowl and a cinema at whatever discounts are available. Events to be held by the Gale Library will also be added.
Bailey moved to accept the summer schedule of events as amended and to pay up to:
$200 for mini-golf (for the first 50 Newton Residents 12 and under);
$300 for supplies for the weekly arts and crafts sessions;
$400 for supplies for the Beach Party;
$50 for the Horace Williams Hall for the Science Camp;
$250 for the Exeter Ice House (for the first 50 Newton Residents 14 and under); for a total of $1,200 out of Summer Programs. Second by Donovan. Motion carried unanimously.
Fall Fair
Holden mentioned that she had a conflict with the date scheduled for the fall fair. She said she would look into when homecoming will be and the Commission can re-schedule the fall fair around that.
Swim Program
Swim Director, Jon Holden arrived at 8:30 pm.
Life guards and swim aids that are minors will not be required to fill out a background check form since their records are sealed.
It was suggested that the life guards could supervise the Family Mediation group in cleaning up the beach. The secretary will contact Family Mediation for times that they are available. Deb Holden purchased supplies for beach cleanup.
Slombo moved to reimburse Deb Holden $31.36 for beach cleanup supplies. Second by Bailey. Motion carried unanimously.
Lifeguard/Swim Aid Contracts
Slombo moved to give raises to all returning life guards except the swim director and to limit the number of lifeguards on duty to those required to safely handle the swim lessons and beach coverage, and to approve the following contracts:
Lifeguard Christopher Hodgman $9.16/hr
Lifeguard Dave Malec $9.63/hr
Lifeguard Keith Hallock $9.16/hr
Swim Aid Amanda King $7.54/hr
Lifeguard Kelly O'Halloran $9.39/hr
Lifeguard Britney Miller $9.16/hr
Lifeguard Alex Hodgman $9.39/hr
Lifeguard Lindsay Hodgman $9.16/hr
Swim Director Jonathan Holden $515.00/wk
Second by Slombo. Motion carried 3-0-1 with Deb Holden abstaining.
Bailey thanked Jon Holden for getting all of the lifeguards and swim aid and getting all of the paperwork done in a timely fashion.
Lifeguard Gear
Jon Holden provided information on lifeguard swim suits and t-shirts. The secretary will order the following from TheLifeGuardStore.com: men's shorts 4 @ $30.50 ea, women's swim suits 5 @ $54.50 ea, t-shirts 9 @ $7.75 ea and 7 lifeguard whistles.
Slombo moved to spend up to $550, including shipping for the lifeguard gear as listed above out of Town Beach Supplies. Second by Donovan. Motion carried unanimously.
Swim Program – Employee Guidelines
The Commission reviewed the Employee Guidelines prepared by Jon Holden. Donovan suggested adding "no Ipods, MP3 players". Bailey suggested "no headphones".
Bailey moved to accept the employee guidelines as amended. Second by Slombo. Motion carried unanimously.
Adjourn
Motion by Bailey with second by Donovan to adjourn at 10:15 pm. Motion carried.
