Old Business:
Update on repair of floor in Primary School – Bill Landry reported he submitted the building permit application.  All documents and photographs have been moved to the back room.  The room has been sealed and the dehumidifier has been turned on.  Once the furniture has been moved to the barn at the Marshall House, the removal of the floor will begin.  Bill spoke to Andy Morse about bringing the debris to the Transfer Station.  Andy indicated there would be no charge for the debris.

Catalogue Cards – Can “Donor” be added – Mary Riordan reported she had printed the cards for the data that had been entered into the computer.  Due to the size of the description field there is not enough room to print Donor on the cards.  Mary Riordan gave Irene the printed cards.  Irene gave Mary the final group of Accessioning forms from the Primary School House to be entered in the computer.

Update on Flea Market / Craft Market / Corn Roast – Bill Landry reported that Mary Marshall gave him the following suggestions for the event:
Date for event of Saturday 9/6/08 with a rain date of Sunday 9/7/08, time 10:00 AM to 3:00PM at Mary Marshall’s place.  The Society would have a table with donated articles where the proceeds would go to the Society.  Suggest to the sellers that they make a donation to the Society either a small percent of their sales, ex. 10% or a dollar donation.  The Roast would be for Society members only.  If selling groups want to attend the Roast we would charge them a small fee.  Mary Marshall is working on an article for the newspaper.

Results of Hayford Carriage evaluation – Tabled until next month.

Transfer of ownership of Hayford Carriage to NHS – Nancy Wrigley reported that after speaking to the Towns insurance agent she believes the artifacts in the Marshall House are covered under the “loss to property of others in the care, custody and control of the Town” clause of the Town’s policy.  There was discussion on whether transferring the Carriage to the Society would be cost effective and/or covered under the “care, custody and control” clause.  Bill asked Nancy to find out if the carriage is “mobile equipment”.

New Business:
Irene Nally requested more supplies for the accessioning effort.  She needs two filing cabinets, permanent markers and/or a burning tool for marking furniture, binders and acid-free sleeves.  Nancy Wrigley indicated there were some filing cabinets at the town hall that we can have.  She also volunteered to pick up some 3-4” binders.  Marilyn Landry made a motion to appropriate up to $100 for the accessioning supplies.  Cheryl Saunders seconded the motion.  The motion passed on a unanimous vote.

Correspondence:
Susan Woodeson of Madison, TN – Bill Landry received a request about her ancestors in the Kimball family.  Bill used the Cemetery Trustee records to provide her burial information on 16 family members.

Association of NH Historical Societies Directory – Bill Landry received a copy of this year’s directory.  We are listed in the directory.

Other:
Cheryl Saunders reported that there were no civil union applications in Newton.  Cheryl explained that marriages in other countries are recognized by the United States.

Next meeting is Monday July 14, 2008 at the Merrimack Bank.

Marilyn Landry made a motion to adjourn.  Cheryl Saunders seconded the motion.  The motion passed on a unanimous vote.  Bill Landry adjourned the meeting at 7:45PM.
