Capital Improvement Committee
Tour of Town Facilities
July 17, 2007
.......................................
A tour of the Town facilities was conducted on July 17, 2007 at 6:30 PM, starting
from the Town Hall located off Main Street.
There was no quarum for this tour.
Present:
Padraic McHale, Chairman
Christopher LaPierre, Appointed member at large
April Whittaker, Town Administrator
Others Present:
Ron Gehl, Chairman of the Selectmen
Skip Fadden, Photographer
David Valladares, Fleet Manager
Fire Department:
David Valladares explained the condition and age of all of the fire department
vehicles. The Chief and Assistant Chief were straight forward with their answers
to questions asked by committee members, such as, was it necessary to
purchase new vehicles or would used vehicles work as well. The answer was
they have been looking into the price to purchase used vehicles. They were all in
agreement that a vehicle did not need to be new in order to meet their needs.
Their biggest concern was that some of the vehicles are old and may pose a
potential safety risk.
Police Department:
Again, David Valladares explained the condition and age of all of the vehicles.
The committee was able to look inside one of the cruisers to see all the
equipment they have. Officer Lamontagne, gave the committee a tour of the
facilities and pointed out some the problems they have run into with the facility
the way it is now, such as, there is insufficient room to conduct an interrogation,
the lack of security cameras around the facility inside and out, and the safety of
the Executive Assistant.
Highway Department:
Once again, David Valladares explained the condition and age of each of the
trucks and equipment run by the highway department. He explained the cost for
repairs on the bigger pieces of equipment like the grader and the loader. Road
Agent, Mark Fuller pointed out the lack of space to shelter all of the equipment.
He also showed the committee the furnace and explained why it is a safety
hazard. He also showed us his office, which is shared with Fleet Manager, David
Valladares. It is extremely small.
After completely a tour of these facilities the committee returned to the Town Hall
at 9:30 PM. The committee still needs to take a tour of the Recreational
Department facilities.
Respectfully submitted,
