TOWN OF MONTEREY
INVITATION TO BID
ROAD PAVING
The Town of Monterey, acting through the Select board, will accept sealed bids until Monday September 10, 2012 at 10:00 am at the Town Offices, Monterey Grange#291, 435 Main Road, Post Office Box 308, Monterey, MA. 01245. Absolutely no bids will be accepted after that time. The sealed bids are for paving on Beartown Mountain Road. The project will consist of bituminous concrete binder 2 ½ ” in depth and Mass Top 1 ½ “ in depth, 21feet wide, 5800 feet long. Approximately 3144 tons will be necessary, with an additional 160 tons for aprons. Estimated cost for the paving: $235,000. Total tonnage is approximately 3304 tons. All materials and workmanship are to meet the latest State specifications. Grinding the existing pavement, at each end, may be need to make a smooth joint.
Two, ten ton rollers will be required for the job. A tack coat shall be applied before applying top coat of asphalt. A sufficient number of trucks for transporting the bituminous concrete to the site will be required. The plane of the finished surface shall be smooth and acceptable to the Director of Operations. The Town of Monterey reserves the right to take a sample out of any haul truck at any given time or check the temperature of the material on the job site in any haul truck. Prevailing wage rates shall apply under Chapter 149, Sections 26 and 27.
This contract contains a price adjustment provision for bituminous concrete mixtures. Price adjustments will be in accordance with Mass. Dept of Transportation special provisions for Price adjustments for Hot Mix Asphalt Mixtures E-09-001 dated July 18, 2012. The base price for asphalt cement on this contract is $610.00 per ton.

Bid opening shall take place at the Monterey Town Offices, Monterey Grange #291, 435 Main Road, Monterey, Ma. 01245. Envelopes shall be clearly labeled “Paving Bid”. Bid must include a 5% bid deposit. The successful bidder must furnish a 100% performance bond.Contractor must be prequalified under MGL Chapter 29, Section 8B in accordance with 729CMR 5.00 by MASSDOT. Work shall be completed by October 5, 2012. The Town of Monterey, acting through its Select board, reserves the right to waive any informality or to reject any or all bids if deemed to be in the Towns best interest. The MINORITY EMPLOYEE percentage rate to be applied to this project will not be less that 5% in each class. Any questions shall be directed to Director of Operations, Maynard Forbes, 413-528-1734.
