1. Presentation- Hometown Hero Ms. Pauline Grimes
Mayor Surrency presented Ms. Pauline Grimes of Hawthorne, Florida with the Hometown Hero Award from the City of Hawthorne for her dedicated service to the ACCEPT (Alachua County Continuing Education for Pregnant/Parenting Teens) Program.
2 .Recognition of Excellence-Hawthorne High Boys Basketball Team
Mayor Surrency and the City Commission recognized the HHS Boys Basketball Team & Coach Greg Bowie & Staff for their outstanding performance in the FHSAA District, Regional & State Playoffs for the 2011-2012 Basketball Season.

Ms. Memree Stuart- Thanks to the CRA Board for the CRA Grant received for the Hawthorne Library.

2. City Manager, City Clerk Bond Renewal
City Manager Vause- The Florida League of Cities (FMIT) will insure both the City Manager and the City Clerk fidelity bonds in the amount of $225K each for $1436.43 for the year. Other vendors were contacted for bids but no quotes were offered.
Moved to renew the fidelity bond with FMIT insurance.

A. A 12-1 Hale & Associated Annexation-Urban Services Report
City Planner Dawson- Staff received a request for voluntary annexation from the owner of Alachua County Tax Parcel 19274-000-000. The process involves adoption by ordinance of an Urban Services Report that details how services will be provided to the property, adoption of an annexation ordinance, and subsequent to annexation, revision of the Future Land Use & Zoning maps to adopt City land use controls for the property.
Moved to adopt the ordinance for the Urban Services Report for A 12-1 on 2nd Reading

H. DISCUSSION
1. Nomination of Cemetery Association Committee
City Manager Vause- Has the City Commission came up with a nominee to serve on the Cemetery Association Committee? If you have you can turn in that name and those names will come back before the City Commission for direct approval.
Vice Mayor Howard- Will give his nomination at the next meeting.
Commissioner Carlton- Someone announced at the last meeting that Ms. Nancy Vause would like to serve on the committee.
Commissioner Roberts- Mr. Larry Tilbury is on vacation but will ask him to serve when he returns.
Commissioner Randall- Will give her nomination at the next meeting also.
2. Great American Clean Up
City Manager Vause- The Great American Clean Up is scheduled for Saturday, March 31, 2012 from 8:00AM-2:00PM.
3. Arts Festival
City Manager Vause- The Hawthorne Arts Festival is scheduled for April 7, 2012 from 2PM-6PM. The Hawthorne Dramatic Arts Group will perform in front of City Hall at 6PM.
4. Schedule of CRA Meeting
City Manager Vause- Staff is suggesting Wednesday, March 28, 2012 @ 10AM. All the City Commissioners agreed on this date and time.
I. CITIZEN COMMENTS
Ms. Vivian Wagner- Have helped clean this city for 22 years and we need more volunteers.
J. REPORTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS/INFORMATION
1. City Manager Vause- gave an update report on Alachua County Economic Development Coordinator, Little Orange Creek Nature Park, Public Works Dept, Fire Training, Water Leaks, Sewer Line, Pump Replacements, Lift Stations, Park & Rec Dept, HYS & Lindsey Phillips Park.
2. City Attorney Harris- Proposed Railroad Crossing with CSX will be coming back before the City Commission within the next month.
3. Commissioners
Commissioner Roberts- Thanks to the Boys Basketball Team for coming out. Zumba classes are held at the Old American Legion on Tuesday @ 6PM- Hawthorne Life Enrichment Senior Luncheon at Chester Shell Elementary on March 10, 2012 at 11AM- 2PM. The cost of the meal is $10.
Commissioner Carlton- Had a good workshop on the financial situation today.
Commissioner Randall- Congratulations again to the Boys Basketball team. Admired the boy’s character during the game. They represented the City of Hawthorne very well. Thanks to Plum Creek for their donation to Chester Shell Elementary.
Vice Mayor Howard- Thanks to the HHS Boys Basketball Coaches, Players & Parents. He enjoyed following the team this year & looking forward to following the team next year.
Mayor Surrency- Encourages people to come out and visit the Little Orange Creek Nature Park. A tour of the site is set up for this Saturday from 2PM-5PM. A lot is going on that day and hope people attend all the events. NOMADS in Hawthorne had some items stolen this past weekend and if anyone know or have information regarding this please notify City Hall.
The next City Commission Meeting will be April 3, 2012.
