Conservation Commission
APPROVED MINUTES
September 6, 2011
A regular meeting of the Conservation Commission was held in the Town Offices on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 and called to order at 6:10 p.m.
Conservation Commission members in attendance: Carbee, Crooker, Freese, Hardwick, Holmes, Lindgren, and Shuffleton. Secretary Lindgren took the minutes.
Old Business
- The status of various easement projects and protection opportunities was discussed
New Business
- Francestown Land Trust is applying for an LCHIP grant for funding of a conservation easement on 180 acres of land adjoining the Piscataquog River. A variety of other funding sources and matching properties are involved in the application. The Board discussed the conservation opportunity and ways that the Conservation Commission could help show strong municipal support for the application. Shuffleton made a motion to offer 1) the use of the recent Stewart easement as a “match”, 2) the confirmation that there are 5 acres of Black Gum swamp in the corridor, 3) a letter of support describing how the location has always been a target for conservation due to its long-term multi-gernerational cultural and agricultural heritage, its scenic viewsheds and riparian habitat environment, and 4) a cash grant of $8000
towards the conservation opportunity, to come from the Conservation Fund. Carbee seconded the motion. All in favor.
An DES minimal wetlands impact and intent-to-cut forestry notification was received for the Kunhardt property on Old County Road South.
Shuffleton moved to adjourn at 7:00 p.m. Lindgren seconded the motion. All in favor.
