Subject:
Introduction of an ordinance regulating temporary advertising signage as proposed by the Falmouth Economic Improvement Committee (FEIC).

ACTION: Schedule public hearing.
Summary:
On December 12, 2011, the Council authorized the Falmouth Economic Improvement Committee (FEIC) to develop, with Town staff assistance, temporary signage options for the Council’s consideration. This effort followed an informal survey the FEIC had conducted with about 14 Falmouth businesses. The survey indicated that businesses would find temporary signage to be beneficial to their enterprise.

The FEIC has worked with staff to develop the ordinance.  The FEIC proposes that these provisions for temporary advertising signs automatically expire on December 31, 2013, unless the Council votes before that date to extend them.

This amendment also includes moving all regulations regarding temporary signs from the Zoning Ordinance to the Code of Ordinances and provides for an exemption for municipal signs or signs on municipally owned or controlled property.
