The Highland Lake Association has been instrumental in the work between 1997 and 2010 which culminated in Highland Lake no longer being designated as impaired for aquatic life support. The Association played a leadership role with the Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District in raising public awareness, advocating for the lake, and persuading landowners to participate in erosion control work to lessen the amount of sedimentation and phosphorus exported to the lake. The Council will recognize the Association and key individuals for their participation in this 13 year effort. Please find attached an EPA article summarizing the program. |
