Councilor Cathy Breen, Nathan Poore, and representatives of several Falmouth churches met February 14 to discuss the future of the Falmouth Food pantry and the development of a new fuel assistance program. The Town Council approved a supplemental appropriation for $5,000 in February. PROP was contracted to distribute the funds to households already approved within the LIHEAP program and several households that barely missed income eligibility. Several donations have since been received totalling more than $10,000.
In anticipation that heating costs will continue to be a crisis for many Falmouth Families, a supplemental appropriation in the amount of $5,000 is requested. We also suggest that a condition be attached to the appropriation. Such condition should incude a provision that Town appropriations be matched by sources of other funds and/or donations. The Falmouth Congregational Church will be holding a fuel assistance fundraising event later this fall and proceeds could be used toward a match.
