Parks and Community Programs Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes from 11/17/09~
The meeting was called to order by Faith Varney at 4:05
Present: Faith Varney, Janet Lane Dye, Karen Jones, Steve Tenney, Lucky D’Ascanio, Jeff Mason, and Dominic Sette-Ducati
The Minutes from last meeting were reviewed and accepted.
Jeff Mason reported that Little League completed their $22,000 upgrade and that the field/pitcher’s mounds look nice. The Fall Classic was held despite a wet early fall, a ditch has been dug and conduit laid for replacement of wires for lighting repairs at Huston Park and slice- seeding at Community Park has been completed. New rails have been installed on the gazebo in Village Park and the ramp will be refurbished in the spring.
Lucky stated that winter/spring brochure is ready to go to print and that FCP has a cover Photo Contest going on. The winner will have their photo displayed as the cover of the Summer brochure. Lucky and Jay Reynolds are part of a Land Management Team that has begun work to catalog all publicly accessible fields, trails and open spaces with the final product to be a published version of a Trail, Fields & Open Space Guide for the town as well as updated/upgraded web information. FCP is gearing up for 23rd Annual Tree Lighting Event on December 3, 2009 from 5:30-6:30pm at Village Park.
Steve Tenney reported that the facilities planning committee is ramping up and will be doing a lot of work in the next two months. He handed out a sheet produced by town staff that outlines the history of the committee and a tentative timeline. The committee has preliminary schematic floor plans of both the Lunt School fitting the Library and Plummer-Motz that could potentially house town hall in the Plummer section and Community Programs Community Center in the Motz wing.
It was noted by Councilor Pierce that this committee (PACPAC) will be an important part of discussions surrounding a new community center “when we get there”.
It was reported by Lucky that the Ice Rink Committee has not brought anything forth for further committee review or discussion.
Faith asked for input regarding the Work Plan. It was noted that much of it will remain the same. February will be modified to include a critique/review of FCP brochures from the previous year and we will move the discussion surrounding expiring terms of committee members from October to September. It was decided that the parks tour scheduled in May should remain and be a yearly event.
There was no new business.
The meeting was adjourned at 5 pm.
Respectfully submitted by,
Dominic Sette-Ducati
