Duxbury Bay Management Commission
Meeting Minutes – Thursday, August 10, 2006
A meeting of the Duxbury Bay Management Commission was held at the Duxbury Senior Center at 7 pm.
In attendance:
John Carnuccio (Chair), Ned Lawson (Vice Chair), Don Gunster, John Brawley, Corey Wisneski (Secretary)
Missing:
Kathy Gould, Emmett Sheehan, Jack Kent, Shawn Dahlen, Don Beers (ex officio)
A quorum was reached.
Votes
To accept the minutes as amended from 6/8/2006 and 7/27/2006, pending minor typographical corrections.
Island Creek Herring Run
An update on the Island Creek fish ladder was given. The profile of the structure has been lowered and backfilled and the baffles are ready to go in.
Shellfish
N. Lawson presented an email (attached) to Joe Grady, Conservation Commissioner, inquiring about the legality of oyster farmers discarding shells overboard.
For the aquaculture committee, J. Brawley had put together several GIS-based overlays on the shellfish and eelgrass resources of the Duxbury-Kingston-Plymouth bays system. Ned suggested showing the selectmen the overlays to accompany moratorium discussions.
Mattakeesett Court Boat Landing
N. Lawson presented an email (attached) he had sent to the selectmen regarding proposed modifications to the addressStreetMattakeesett Court boat ramp.
Hurricane Emergency Planning Group
N. Lawson handed out copies of the minutes (attached) taken from the first Hurricane Emergency Planning Group meeting on 8/3/2006.
New Dock Proposal
J. Carnuccio presented a proposal for a new dock system at the Walkey residence at addressStreet341 King Caesar Road. The system includes a 10’x20’ float with a 70’ series of floating plastic walk docks. Potential use conflicts were discussed, including aesthetic concerns, access for shellfishing, and windsurfing. The system would also be exposed to potential south/southwest storms and relevant safety issues were briefly discussed. Lighting requirements for such a low profile dock will be researched.
Other Business
The email addresses of the three new members were requested.
J. Carnuccio announced that he had drafted a letter for the past DBMC members in appreciation of their service.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:47 pm.
