Town Meeting Minutes 03/23/2010 *with correction

TOWN OF WILLINGTON

            MINUTES

SPECIAL TOWN MEETING

March 23, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m.

First Selectman, Christina Mailhos read the call of the meeting and asked for nominations for a

Moderator.  Mary Bowen made a motion to appoint Christina Mailhos as moderator and was seconded

by Joe Colangelo.

Motion carried.

Item I.

To see if the townspeople, on the recommendation of the Board of Selectmen, will accept Wilderness Way as a Town Road.

A motion was made by John Patton and seconded by Matt Ellis to approve

 Item I.

Discussion followed.

John Patton explained his motivation to petition to go to a town meeting to revote on this item.  There were unanswered questions that were not understood with the previous town meeting and the cost it could incur if the town had to go to court on this matter.

The 1st Selectman, Christina Mailhos, had the history of the road distributed to the public attending the meeting.  Present to answer questions were the Town Attorneys Mark Branse and Kari Olson, Town Engineer Karl Acimovic and Susan Yorgensen Zoning Agent.  Concerns by residents were the construction of the road being built to spec, conservation open space issues and concerns about the correct procedure for complying for the subdivision town road.

A site map was available and explained by Attorney Branse on the conservation open space and the right of way for Poole’s land.  Karl Acimovac addressed the construction of the road with the proper base material for the entire length of the road. The attorneys commented on the cost of litigation if the question does not pass.

Motion carried.

A motion was made by John Patton and seconded by Shirley Lewis to adjourn the meeting 7:25pm.

Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,

Donna J. Hardie
