MINUTES
SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
March 10, 2015
(March 3, 2015 (cancelled due to inclement weather)
The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m.
First Selectman, Christina Mailhos read the call of the meeting and asked for nominations for a
moderator. John Blessington made a motion to appoint Christina Mailhos as moderator and was
seconded by Bob Shabot.
Motion carried.
The moderator read the call of the meeting again.
Item I
To see if the townspeople, on the recommendation of the Board of the Finance, will accept the grant and authorize the appropriation of $50, 000 from Capital Projects, 03-3064 to perform a Preservation Planning Study in the South Willington area, which will be 100% funded by a Vibrant Communities Initiative Grant Program, provided by the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation.
Moderator read Item I
A motion was made by John Blessington and seconded by Peter Tanaka to approve Item I.
Discussion followed about what the grant would consist of. The study of the South Willington Village, from the Mills area to the Battye Road area, would look into the economic development possibilities.
It would look into this area being listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
A study by a landscape architect would look at “What does it look like?” as far as appearance and appeal.
They would be looking into the zoning of a Village District Zone.
Motion carried.
A motion was made by Peter Tanaka and seconded by John Blessington to adjourn the meeting at 7:17p.m.
