Meeting Minutes
Regular Meeting November 16, 2009
Town Office Building – Lower Conference Room 6:30 P.M.
First Selectman Eldredge called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M. with the following in attendance: Selectmen Palmer, Charette, Lynn Nicholls, Senator Tony Gugliemo, Representative Bryan Hurlburt, Sergeant Major William Chapman, II, Boy Scout Troop, Cub Scout Pack 82, Willington Girl Scouts and Residents. First Selectman Eldredge led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Approval of Minutes:
Selectman Charette motioned to approve the minutes of 10/19/09.
Selectman Palmer seconded the motion.
Vote: 3 Yes (Eldredge, Palmer & Charette) 0 No.
New Business:
A. Present citation to Sergeant Major William W. Chapman II by State Representatives
State Representative Bryan Hurlburt said on behalf on the General Assembly it is quite an honor to have someone that he and Tony can represent the honor as the Grand Marshal of the Veteran’s Day parade.
State Representative Bryan Hurlburt read the General Assembly Official Citation:
BE it hereby known by all that the Connecticut General Assembly hereby offers its sincerest congratulations to William W. Chapman II
In Recognition of:~~ Being named an Honorary Grand Marshal of the Connecticut Veterans Day Parade. Your 35 years of service in the Marine Corps, Army Reserve, and Connecticut National Guard stands as a testament to your hard work and dedication. You have made your country, the state of Connecticut, and the great town of Willington proud. The entire membership extends its very best wishes on this memorable occasion, and expresses hope for it’s continued success.

Mr. Chapman said that he has always felt the need to serve. He spoke to the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and said that he too, was a Boy Scout, and the need kept going, and couldn’t get it out of his system. He joined the Guard and retired as a Command Sergeant Major, and was in charge of over a thousand Troops while he was over in Iraq. He accepted the award for all of the Veterans in the Town.
First Selectman Eldredge said thank you to the Scouts who made the food drive happen. He said he cannot believe the amount of food that was collected – you should be very proud of yourselves and the leaders who helped make it happen. He thanked them on behalf of the Town.
First Selectman Eldredge motioned to adjourn the meeting at 6:34P.M.
Selectman Charette seconded the motion.
