BOARD OF SELECTMEN
SPECIAL MEETING DEC. 27, 2006
TOWN OFFICE BUILDING 5:00 P.M.
First Selectman Eldredge called the meeting to order at 5:05 P.M. with the following in attendance: Selectmen Patton and Lewis, L. Nicholls and residents.
PUBLIC WORKS
The Board signed bills. Discussion followed on tree service in Town, Linden is very good. Lynn reported that Kahn Tractor gave a quote of $1,583.69 for the boom. Mark Savin’s price is $1,000 and he would use a heavy gage steel. First Selectman Eldredge commented stick with Savin. Discussion on the chain of command and 24 hours request for 1-day vacation leave, personal time and the union contract followed. It was agreed that all public works employees must request 1 day vacation or personal time 24 hours in advance, as the union contract says, on the appropriate form and also call Lynn if it is a weekend and she will not see the form until Monday. After Lynn approves the request she will fax it to the First Selectman for further approval. Lynn explained to First
Selectman Eldredge about setting up for the Dec. 12th Town Meeting. First Selectman Eldredge asked her to set up chairs for the Town Meeting and then e-mailed her asking why it was not done. The chairs were set up first thing on the morning of the 12th. Lynn was not told that the Town Hall was in use that morning from 10:00 a.m. to Noon, the people using the Town Hall took down the chairs. Lynn commented Mike you called me Christmas night regarding the roads. I have been doing the roads for over 4 years, snow plowing for over 20 years, I have 2 thermostats on my back wall, I set my alarm, when I think it is necessary, for every 2 hours during the night, I have a scanner and if there is an emergency Troop C calls me. This is the second time this year you called, are you going to call me every snow storm to see what is going on? First Selectman Eldredge commented I will call you when I feel as though I want to touch bases with
you, at my house it was snowing and I called you if you did go out and check the roads and let me know what the condition was. Lynn commented there was no condition that night. First Selectman Eldredge commented that’s fine; it was snowing at my house. Further discussion on this followed. Lynn commented if I go out and find the road conditions are bad I will be happy to call you, unless it is an emergency I rather you not call me at night. First Selectman Eldredge commented I’m sorry Lynn but if I want to talk to you about a possible condition of the road I will call you. I tried to call you early enough; I left a message on your cell phone.
