BOARD OF SELECTMEN

SPECIAL MEETING                                                                                                                    SEPT. 21, 2006
SELECTMEN’S CONFERENCE ROOM                                                                                  5:00 P. M.

Selectman Patton called the meeting to order at 5:05 P.M. with the following in attendance:  Selectman Lewis, L. Nicholls and resident.  First Selectman Eldredge was absent.

Various invoices and bills were signed.  Lynn commented the van for the Dog Warden might be here next week.  Lynn gave the board 3 list of upcoming work.  Selectman Patton commented he is going to the Board of Finance tonight and would like them to think about putting money in the next budget to hire sub contractors to help with the roads.  He would like their feedback.  Lynn commented the 1st. list is a status list; the 2nd list is from doing GASB and the 3rd. list is from people calling.  We have hit things that have not been done in years but then are falling behind on other stuff.  Selectman Lewis commented Latham Road has an ice problem and he would like to give an answer when it will be done.  Lynn commented they are trying to figure that out the list is added to daily and not being subtracted from.  Lynn commented that she talked to Gorman Brothers, she is happy with the roads that were done.  Gorman Brothers said they spent a lot of money on their machines.  Last year we had 10.40 miles done using 62,143 gallons at a cost of $65,000.  This year we had 11.57 miles of road done plus Fire Dept. #1 and we use 56,132 gallons at a cost of $93,000 (prices went up).  Selectman Patton asked what did we budget for this?  Lynn commented $80,000; it was done better that last year.  Lynn commented she wants to ask the company doing the sidewalk if they would put a pad in for the generator.  S. Cobb will get the dimensions.  Discussion on where this will go followed.  Lynn commented she goes over to the sidewalk job daily.  Lynn will bring in the sand bids next week.  The small dump truck is fixed.  Discussion on the bigger truck followed.  That may be ready October 9th.  Lynn suggested making a list of all the items we could go to bid with along with the old truck and ask for sealed bids.  She has called Willimantic Waste about the compactor; they will get back to her.  Selectman Patton commented he is going to the Board of Finance regarding the Ketches Road Bridge and the drainage system and invited Lynn.  Selectman Patton commented our trucks are not cost effective for hauling, we need to use a triaxial.

SELECTMAN LEWIS MOVED TO ADJOURN THE MEETING AT 5:46 P.M.
Selectman Patton seconded the motion.
VOTE:  2 YES (PATTON & LEWIS)    0  NO
