November 24th 2009
7:00 PM -
Attending Members: Joseph Colangelo, Al Ference, Mike Pinatti, Greg Suchy, Rich Mindek, Bill Bilyak, and Josh Walsh were present. Recreation Director Teri Gareau was also in attendance.
Guests: Also in attendance were Willington residents John Patton, Donny McMenemy, Ben Taiman, and Adam Swart.
Meeting called to order by Chairman Colangelo at 7:08 PM.
The minutes from the previous WPRC meeting (10/27/09) were reviewed. Joe Colangelo made a motion to accept the minutes without changes, which was seconded by Al Ference. All members were unanimous in approval.
A. As an update from last week’s special meeting, based off the above rules and procedures listed and after obtaining the consent of the Adult Parent head coaches, it was unanimously agreed upon that Ben Taiman and Adam Swart will assist Head Coach John Wojtyna with his 7th and 8th grade boy’s basketball team, and Donny McMenemy will assist Head Coach Butch Littell with the other 7th and 8th grade boy’s basketball team.
- WPRC still reserves the right to make a decision regarding coaches. However, the recommended guideline of one student per head coach for every grade (4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th) will be followed.
- Elizabeth Wallett, a Senior from E.O. Smith High School, wrote a letter to Willington Superintendent David Harding regarding the use of the Hall School gymnasium facility to conduct an event for her Senior Project. Superintendent Harding referred the letter and her request to the WPRC. There was some concern and discussion regarding the use of the gym by a senior high school student, regarding possible liability and clean up responsibility. After careful consideration and review, Liz Wallett was approved unanimously by the WPRC for use of the Hall School gymnasium, which will serve as the location for an event as part of her Senior Project. She will need to ensure that a parent/adult be available to assist with clean-up and be present in case of an emergency.
- Future cases such as these will be handled on a case-by-case basis by the WPRC.
- Update on Programs / Dates to Remember: There will be a Choir Sing at the Willington Public Library on December 12th, 2009 from 6:30PM – 8:00pm
There was no Old Business.
A. Joe Colangelo will submit a Letter of Request to the Board of Selectmen in reference to the election and acceptance of Josh Walsh and Al Ference to extended terms as committee members of the WPRC. Notice of their extension will be made public once approved by the Board of Selectmen.
B. S.T.E.A.P. Grant Update:
- The drawing plans will need to go back to Karl Acimovic for modification involving the correct placement of different sports areas. Karl will be invited to the next meeting with sight plans to discuss the specifications for each proposed sporting court (basketball, volleyball, etc.)
- Joe Colangelo handed out an organized flow chart which outlined each specific task to be completed at RRAC as follows:
- STEAP Mentor – John Patton
- Walking Path – Josh Walsh
- Volleyball and Basketball Courts – Greg Suchy and Rich Mindek
- Playscape – Bill Bilyak
- Electrical, Panel, Pavilion – Joe Colangelo, Mike Pinatti, and Al Ference
Greg Suchy motioned to adjourn, which was seconded by Joe Colangelo. The meeting adjourned at 8:14PM. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009 at 7:00PM on the main level at the Town Hall Office Building, 40 Old Farms Road.
Respectfully submitted 11/28/09
