Committee Minutes
Regular Meeting
January 27th 2009
7:00 PM
Attending Members: Joseph Colangelo, Mike Pinatti, Al Ference, Rich Mindek, and Bill Bilyak were present. Recreation Director Teri Gareau was also in attendance. Greg Suchy was not present.
Meeting called to order at 7:14 PM.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the previous WRC meeting (12/23/08) were reviewed. Joe Colangelo made a motion to accept the minutes without changes, which was seconded by Rich Mindek. All members were unanimous in approval.
GENERAL DISCUSSION:
- Questions were raised about allowing RRAC fields to be used for a possible PTA party. Teri agreed to look into this matter regarding insurance issues, possible permits, etc.
- Teri provided the Commission information regarding a Shade Structure Program grant for free standing structures. This might apply to RRAC and an outdoor amphitheatre. Teri will look into this grant for further information.
- Commission member Bill Bilyak introduced an informative pamphlet on playscapes and a program that provides free labor for the building of a playscape at RRAC when the time comes to build one.
DIRECTORS REPORT:
- Update on Programs: The Karate winter 2009 season is underway. The new Youth Basketball program is underway and so far there has been a positive response playing in the new conference. It will be evaluated after the season ends. The new beginner and open Fencing session started January 17th.
- Update on Projects: The 911 Reflective Signs fundraiser has done well-we have sold 52 signs. Information on “The Willington Word” quarterly town newsletter was presented. Anyone who has information for the newsletter is encouraged to send information to the town for printing.
- Budget Information: The Recreation Department is presenting its budget to the Board of Finance on February 26th, 2009 at 7:00p.m. A CIP request was submitted for a walking path. Also, the first draft for the STEAP Grant was submitted on January 2nd, 2009.
OLD BUSINESS:
A. The water well and electrical needs to be completed once the weather clears up in time for spring. We will need help completing this task and will discuss further details once the time comes.
NEW BUSINESS:
- New business discussed was a continuance of the Director’s report regarding the 2009 CIP requests being submitted to the Board of Finance and discussion of the upcoming Willington Recreation budget
ADJOURNMENT:
Rich Mindek motioned to adjourn, and after some more discussion, was seconded by Al Ference. The meeting adjourned at 8:11PM. The next meeting is scheduled for February 24th, 2009 at 7:00PM on the main level at the Town Hall Office Building, 40 Old Farms Road.
