Committee Minutes
Regular Meeting
September 25th, 2007
7:00 PM
Attending Members: Mike Harnad, Greg Blessing, Greg Suchy, Joseph Colangelo, Al Ference, and Mike Pinatti. John Sahi and Tony Magaldi were also in attendance.
Meeting called to order at 7:10 PM.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the previous WRC meeting were reviewed. Mike Harnad made a motion to accept the minutes without changes, which was seconded by Greg Blessing. All members were unanimous in approval.
GENERAL DISCUSSION:
Tonight’s discussion was related to Willington Little League and it’s interaction with the Willington Recreation Department at our baseball fields. Tony Magaldi, and the WRC members made the following points:
· Garbage is not being controlled at the baseball fields.
· Weed control in the infield dirt and at fences needs attention.
· Mowing is not done on a regular basis leaving the grass in large clumps that choke the lawns.
· Fertilizing of the fields needs to be done on a regular basis.
· Outhouses are sometimes not available at sporting events.
The WRC members and Mr. Magaldi agreed that the maintenance issues we are facing at the existing fields and now at the RRAC may be beyond the capabilities of a volunteer force and the Public Works Department. It was agreed that a meeting should be held including the Leagues using the Town fields, the WRC members, a Public Works representative, the Town Selectmen and the BOF to discuss this situation. The WRC will define the issues in preparation for this discussion. A petition or form will be developed to bring to the people of Willington to help everyone further understand this situation.
DIRECTORS REPORT:
John Sahi reported the following:
· Carl Asimovic had not prepared the bid package for fencing at the RRAC. This bid package was requested over three months ago. This has held up the work to make the baseball field at the RRAC playable.
· A Karate program has been introduced as a new Recreation Program.
· The girl’s softball Clinic was a success.
OLD BUSINESS:
The fencing and infield work to be done at the RRAC is still waiting for bid packages to be sent out at this time.
NEW BUSINESS:
A. The basketball recreation program is on schedule with forms going out next week with fees at $45.00 for the regular program, and $30.00 for instructional. A free clinic will be available to all players. Our registration deadline will be October 31st. John Sahi is connecting with Ashford to see if they would like to play some travel games with Willington. Games played with other towns should follow the same referee guidelines per game. All coaches and referees will be provided with a “checklist” regarding play. John Sahi will create a referee and coaches meeting to discuss this.
B. A meeting with the BOF and Public Works will be scheduled once the WRC members create a list of problems and possible solutions.
C. The adult basketball program will be limited to 22 people. John Sahi has requested the time slot for this program. The high school boy’s time slot will be Sunday from 3PM to 5PM.
ADJOURNMENT:
Mike Harnad motioned to adjourn, which was seconded by Joseph Colangelo. The meeting adjourned at 8:27PM. The next meeting is scheduled for October 23rd, 2007 at 7:00PM at the Town Hall Office Building.
Respectfully submitted 9/27/07
