Committee Minutes
Regular Meeting
September 26th, 2006
7:00 PM
Attending Members: Joseph Colangelo, Mike Harnad, Mike Pinatti, Ed Taiman and Greg Blessing. John Sahi was also in attendance.
Meeting called to order at 7:02 PM.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the previous WRC meeting were reviewed. Greg Blessing made a motion to accept the minutes without changes, which was seconded by Ed Taiman. All members were unanimous in approval.
GENERAL DISCUSSION:
Fertilizing all sports fields in Willington should become a regularly scheduled job. A “study” should be done to see if outsourcing the work would be an option over using Public Works. Adding the work as a budget item may be necessary. John Sahi will look for bids on this work.
DIRECTORS REPORT:
John Sahi reported the following:
· Nineteen applications for the adult basketball program were accepted.
· Youth basketball forms have been sent out.
· Knights have removed most of their equipment from the RRAC.
· Henry Becker will be sent a thank you notice for the wood chips he gave the RRAC.
· The fencing program will begin this week.
· Our aerobics classes are canceled due to the loss of the instructor.
· A Boston “Duck Boat” trip has been scheduled.
OLD BUSINESS:
A. The RRAC is presently hydro-seeded in all locations except where a pile of soil sits near the commuter parking lot. A fence may be necessary at the “retention pond” for pedestrian and vehicular traffic safety. Fencing for safety at the parking area and train tracks should also be addressed immediately. The fencing should be installed appropriate to the placement of the walking path. Willington Little League is proposing a $5,000.00 grant to assist in building a baseball field at the RRAC. It has been suggested that WAM be requested to help in an effort to complete more items at the “all purpose field”. Possible a $2,000.00 grant.
B. The present plan for the RRAC does not comply with the existing site work. John Sahi will meet with Karl Asimovic to work with the existing plan and remove the incomplete installations, check the slope of the rear mulch bed to the train tracks, and create fencing lines.
NEW BUSINESS:
The upcoming basketball season was discussed including the following suggestions:
· Approve travel games with Mansfield.
· Schedule all games with the BOE/Hall School immediately.
· Coaching certifications should be necessary this year as well as background checks.
· All coaches will be given spreadsheets to submit before the end of the season with evaluations for each team player. Post-season play per team will only be allowed if the evaluations have been submitted.
· October 24th will be our deadline for accepting registrations.
VI. ADJOURNMENT:
Joseph Colangelo motioned to adjourn, which was seconded by Mike Harnad. The meeting adjourned at 8:16PM. The next meeting is scheduled for October 24th, 2006 at 7:00PM at the Town Hall Office Building.
Respectfully submitted 10/4/06
Joseph C. Colangelo
