Committee Minutes
Regular Meeting
May 23rd, 2006
7:00 PM
Attending Members: Mike Harnad, Joseph Colangelo, Ed Taiman, and Bob Portello.
Meeting called to order at 7:12 PM.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the previous WRC meeting were reviewed. Ed Taiman made a motion to accept the minutes without changes, which was seconded by Bob Portello. All members were unanimous in approval.
GENERAL DISCUSSION:
Ed Taiman made a suggestion to create a “Willington Fine Arts Club”. This club could be responsible for an annual summer play presented at the Old Town Hall. Fund raising was discussed including the possibility of a Golf Tournament. The necessity of subcommittees to provide the framework and follow up to create these programs was also discussed. Ed Taiman reported that he is still pursuing the attorney representing the Home Depot property in Vernon, in reference to the scoreboards still standing on the property.
NOTE: John Sahi arrives at 7:25PM
DIRECTORS REPORT:
John Sahi reported that archery has started and is successful. Also the fencing club program has been extended due to more interest in the club. Summer camps are starting soon and some personnel will be necessary for operation of the programs. John is recruiting interested people.
OLD BUSINESS:
A. Knight Construction is working on the hill behind the baseball field adjacent to the train tracks. Some equipment has been stuck due to the wet weather and Friday is the targeted date to get started on work again. They will install conduits and ground boxes for communications, power, and water when work continues.
B. John Sahi will review the cost of operating the waterfront at Halls Pond over the last four years. The trend has been a loss of revenue due to less passes being purchased per summer. The WRC feels the waterfront is worth providing to the townspeople, but the operation of the site may have to be re-evaluated in order to make it profitable or at least break even.
C. Joseph Colangelo did not have the WRC “action list” available at this time.
NEW BUSINESS:
A. A list of items to be included in the next RRAC RFP were created as follows:
1. Fencing to protect the fields from motorists.
2. An infield for the baseball site.
3. A backstop for the baseball site.
4. Side and outfield fences for the baseball site.
5. Foul poles for the baseball site.
6. Power for the entire site.
7. Bleachers for the entire site.
8. Dugouts for the baseball site.
9. Equipment sheds for the baseball site.
10. A well for the entire site.
11. An electronic scoreboard for the baseball site.
12. A walking path for the entire site.
B. Bob Portellos calendar item for the upcoming month was to have all appropriate flyers delivered to the school system for summer and early fall programs.
ADJOURNMENT:
Mike Harnad motioned to adjourn, which was seconded by Bob Portello. The meeting adjourned at 8:10PM. The next meeting is scheduled for June 27th, 2006 at 7:00PM at the Town Hall Office Building.
Respectfully submitted 5/25/06
