Committee Minutes
Regular Meeting
January 23rd, 2006
7:00 PM
Attending Members: Mike Harnad, Mike Pinatti, Joseph Colangelo, Greg Blessing, Greg Suchy, Ed Taiman and Bob Portello. John Sahi was also in attendance.
Meeting called to order at 7:04 PM.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the previous WRC meeting were reviewed. Mike Harnad made a motion to accept the minutes without changes, which was seconded by Greg Blessing. All members were unanimous in approval.
GENERAL DISCUSSION:
The Wilderness Lake property being offered to the Town of Willington by Ray Crossen was reviewed by the WRC. This property is roughly 20 acres of land and 15 acres of pond. The property includes a bathhouse, lodge and other outbuildings. The waterfront is clean and useable. The dam is a possible problem requiring at least $250,00.00 in repairs. This location would make a very useable park for town members. A study is necessary to review feasibility of ownership by the town. A separate committee should be created to review all possibilities.
The RFP for work to be started this spring at the RRAC was reviewed. The WRC is hoping for a draft by Karl Ascimovik by 2/15/06 with approval by the Selectmen by 2/22/06. The work should be awarded by 4/1/06 to allow for planting of grass for the upcoming season.
Mike Harnad suggested we pursue the development of a bocce court somewhere accessible to the Senior Center.
NOTE: Greg Blessing excused himself @ 7:35PM to attend another meeting.
DIRECTORS REPORT:
John Sahi submitted a new playoff schedule for the 05-06-basketball season.
Mr. Sahi also discussed the issue of cutting grass in our playing fields during various sports seasons. More fields are being created, which brings more of a burden on Public Works to complete the work. John will ask Lynn Nichols to attend our next meeting and discuss this situation with the WRC.
OLD BUSINESS:
A. The gravel is being spread on the baseball field by Knight Construction during breaks in the weather and will be completed soon. Joseph Colangelo will contact the utility to start working on bringing power to the RRAC site. The well should be installed for 06 to allow watering of the grass in the new fields. A septic design will be submitted by John Sahi to allow approval of the well drilling. Joseph Colangelo is looking into a donation of HID lighting for the parking area at the RRAC.
B. An action item list will follow each WRC meeting.
NEW BUSINESS:
A. Photographs for basketball will be done on 2/4/06. John Sahi has submitted a schedule to the coaches. Greg Suchy is providing the WRC with a “coaches evaluation” sheet for review.
B. The Winter Baseball Clinic will be on the following dates: 2/25 – 3/4 -3/11 – 3/18. The Little League tryouts will follow the last class from 1:00PM until completion. Cost per player will be $40.00. Joseph Colangelo and Mike Pinatti will work on some new stations and exercises for the upcoming Clinic.
C. The Pitch, Hit, and Run program will be provided on opening day if we can get enough volunteers to implement the program.
D. Discussion of a portable ice-skating rink will be reviewed at a WRC meeting previous to the next winter season.
ADJOURNMENT:
Joseph Colangelo motioned to adjourn, which was seconded by Ed Taiman. The meeting adjourned at 8:37PM. The next meeting is scheduled for February 28th, 2006 at 7:00PM at the Town Hall Office Building.
Respectfully submitted 1/26/06
Joseph C. Colangelo
