Committee Minutes
Special Meeting
July 12th, 2005
7:00 PM
Attending Members: Mike Harnad, Mike Pinatti, Joseph Colangelo, Ed Taiman and Bob Portello. John Sahi was not in attendance.
Meeting called to order at 7:10 PM.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the previous WRC meeting were not available and will be posted and reviewed at the next meeting.
EXECUTIVE SESSION: At 7:15PM Mike Harnad made a motion to enter into an “Executive Session”. Joseph Colangelo seconded the motion with unanimous approval by the other members of the WRC. At 7:52PM Mike Pinatti made a motion to exit the “Executive Session”, which was seconded by Bob Portello and made unanimous by the other members of the WRC.
GENERAL DISCUSSION:
A. Two basketball pole assemblies still need installation at the outdoor court in the Hall School parking lot.
B. The fertilizer for the RRAC needs spreading. It is possible that the Public Works Department may find time for this. If not, the WRC needs another option.
C. Mike Harnad is completing the “Basketball Document”, and should be ready by next meeting for a final presentation.
D. It was decided that a standard “Willington Recreational Basketball” shirt be used for this year’s basketball program. We also need to start recruiting more referees’ as soon as possible. Both adult and teenage referee’s.
OLD BUSINESS:
Bob Portello presented his “calendar” which the WRC will work to finalize next meeting.
It was decided that future WRC related work that is possibly beyond the scope or time constraints of John Sahi should be delegated into sub committees. These sub committees could extend to people outside of the WRC board members.
NEW BUSINESS:
The RRAC project is in a state of flux due to the loss of a crusher for creating gravel. A solution is necessary to move the project forward. We also need to bring in something besides “sweepings” to mix with the topsoil. A possibility may be sand from a town “sand pit”.
It was agreed by all members of the WRC present, that the First Selectman needs to offer more assistance with large-scale projects like the RRAC. We will invite the First Selectman to a future meeting to discuss this point.
Future “Directors Reports” presented at the WRC meetings should include an accounting of the Recreation Department funds to date, and projections based on past experience.
ADJOURNMENT:
There was a motion made by Joseph Colangelo to adjourn, which was seconded by Bob Portello. The meeting was adjourned at 8:33PM. The next WRC meeting will be held on 7/26/05 at 7:00PM in the Town Hall Office Building.
Respectfully submitted 7/15/05
Joseph C. Colangelo
