February 24th, 2004

7:00 PM

Attending Members: Joseph Colangelo, Ed Taiman, Mike Pinatti, Mike Harnad, and Greg Blessing.  John Sahi the Assistant to the Recreation Commission was also in attendance.

Meeting called to order at 7:02 PM.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes from the previous WRC meeting were reviewed.  The motion to accept was by Mike Harnad with a second by Ed Taiman.

GENERAL DISCUSSION:
Joseph Colangelo requested that the WRC consider approaching the administration at Hall Memorial School to create a better process in finding coaches for the school sports programs.  There was also discussion of an adult baseball league for next year, which will be proposed for next meeting.

DIRECTORS REPORT:
John Sahi was not available during this part of the meeting.  His report was distributed and read by the members of the WRC.  It was agreed at this time that Ed Taiman would create a “waterfront” checklist for lifeguards at Hall Pond this summer.  A summer basketball clinic will be attempted this year.  The River Road complex was the final topic of discussion in the report, specifically the need for topsoil and additional work involving a well and electrical service.

OLD BUSINESS:
Joseph Colangelo proposed that the funds allocated last year for upgrades to the Town Office Field be used partly to repair the infield grass of the large field.  Ed Taiman seconded the proposal, with the remaining members of the WRC voting unanimously in favor of the decision.
The following suggestions were made in regards to improving basketball for next season:
(Create a clinic to train referees and involve more high school age children; use shirt colors that are more distinct; create an earlier sign up date to avoid late penalties/registrations; request Tony Beltrand to help with our summer clinic; use eight minute periods and stop the clock for all sessions; maintain the “arc” rule, add a three point shot, and allow full court press with two minutes in each half for 3,4,5 graders; provide pinneys to coaches for practice; have all teams included in the playoffs; coaches need to be more responsible with reporting scores; schedule gym time to allow more practices and at least ten games per season.)

NEW BUSINESS:
River Road was discussed at the Directors Report.
The Winter Baseball Clinic is on schedule.
Archery will be discussed in our next meeting.
Flag football will be discussed in our next meeting.  Topics will be; adding other towns to our roster, promoting the sport during the school year, and promoting the sport near the end of the baseball season.

ADJOURMENT:
There was a motion made by Joseph Colangelo to adjourn, which Mike Harnad seconded.  The meeting was adjourned at 9:00PM.  The next regular WRC meeting was scheduled for March 23,2004 at 7:00PM.
