APPROVAL OF MINUTES

February minutes approval tabled until April 12, 2011 meeting.

PRESENT TO SPEAK

None.

COMMUNICATIONS

Reviewed and discussed communication concerning the lights left on at night in the library.  The board has decided to leave certain lights on throughout the night as a security precaution (both inside and outside).  Outside lights are left on from dusk to dawn for patrons returning materials in the drop-box during non-operating hours.  Although the library already uses low-energy lights, the board will readdress this issue after an energy audit.

Reviewed and discussed communication from two Willington residents concerned that the American flag has not been raised in the past few weeks.  The hazardous conditions caused by the snow this winter made it difficult to get to the flag pole to raise the flag. The situation was temporary.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Reviewed and discussed.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Roby Passardi presented the Director’s Report—Reviewed and discussed.
OLD BUSINESS

  • Budget: Reviewed and discussed potential budget for 2011-2012 Fiscal year.  The board discussed some numbers that may change based on the Board of Finance’s decisions this Thursday.
  • Quickbooks Payroll—reviewed and discussed.  This issue will be readdressed after budget season is over.

NEW BUSINESS

Donation Challenge—The Willington Public Library will be hosting a dollar for dollar match donation challenge again this year.  The board extends thanks to the generous Willington Family for providing us with this opportunity to raise much needed funds once again.  The board will be preparing materials for this donation challenge in the coming months.

BOARD CONCERNS

Suzanne Chapman mentioned the recent town survey, and ideas for a Willington Public Library survey were discussed. A survey will be designed and offered to patrons in the coming months in an effort to improve the library services.

Next Regular Meeting – April 11, 2011 @ 7:00 p.m.

The board agreed to adjourn after all items had been discussed at 8:19pm.

Respectfully Submitted,

Katherine Kalagher-Ryan, Secretary
