Economic Development Commission Meeting
Special Meeting Minutes of
October 5, 2015

J Silverstein opened the meeting at 6:06 PM.

Public Comment
  • None – none present
Approval of Minutes
  • Minutes were not approved due to not having a quorum of members.
New Business
  • Correspondence/Email – The Economic Development Commission (“EDC” or “the Commission”) received an email from an individual reporting a poor experience at the Rodeway Inn. The Commission discussed possible action items and the need to provide a reply to the sender of the email. The property is currently for sale. J Silverstein will prepare a draft reply. Upon approval, a final reply will be provided via email on behalf of the Commission.

  • Economic Development – Tabled
  • Open EDC Activities
  • Business Directory – K Kowalyshyn presented the 2015 Business Directory Outline denoting eleven action steps for getting a new Business Directory out to Willington households. The initiative began July 1, 2015 and is expected to conclude April 15, 2016. K Kowalyshyn will email the following items to the EDC members for review and feedback: Outline, Pricing, Order Form, and Letter. Once the particulars are finalized, the Commission will coordinate communications to businesses that will include Facebook, eBlasts, and Willington Word.
  • Business Profile for the Website - Tabled
  • Market Study – A public meeting was held on September 23rd to present the findings of the Market Study by Fairweather Consulting. The Commission agreed to invite Mr. Peter Fairweather to the next EDC meeting to discuss future action items and anticipated results.
Kim Kowalyshyn exited the meeting.

  • Facebook – J Silverstein reported the weekly “Business of the Week” continues to post and suggested an eBlast be prepared to let folks know of the presence of the EDC on Facebook. T Buccino agreed.
  • Budget & Housekeeping
  • J Silverstein distributed the general ledger for the EDC budget. In addition to the general ledger report, J Silverstein will provide the members with an anticipated expense list at future meetings.
  • There is one alternate seat open on the commission. J Silverstein will prepare an eBlast for distribution, as well as for posting on the EDC Facebook page.
Meeting adjourned at 6:55 PM.

The next meeting of the EDC will be on Monday, October 26, 2015 at 6:30 PM.
