Opened Meeting at 6:13 PM
Public Present: Peter Fairweather by phone to discuss his presentation on the Market Study at our Business Networking Meeting (BNM) scheduled for April 29, 2015.
Old Business:
Business Networking Meeting – We called Peter Fairweather and went over the outline that he had emailed to us. It was agreed that Peter would talk a little about his business and then provide an overview of the Market Study project and the scope of work. He then planned to engage the audience with some questions/exercises like what are the obstacles to project success; what are the opportunities; what will project success look like. Peter will also answer questions. He estimated that he would need about 45 minutes. He thought it was a good idea to have the Vibrant Communities Initiative (VCI) consultant present at the BNM to address potential economic development related to VCI. Peter suggested that the consultant call him so they could coordinate their presentations. Jackie will obtain
consultant name and contact information from Tom Buccino. Jackie asked Peter to email her a short bio for his introduction at the BNM.
Peter said that he had arranged to meet with UCONN officials re the Tech Park and other initiatives that could impact economic development in Willington while he’s in town for the BNM.
When our conversation with Peter ended, Jackie went over the draft agenda for the BNM meeting. We decided to allocate about 15 minutes for the VCI consultant. There were no real changes to the agenda. Jason suggested that we limit sign in info to name and business name and reference the business directory to see if we needed other data like email address. We discussed the raffle prize and agreed upon a half page ad in the upcoming revised Business Directory. Jackie will construct a gift basket to be given to the winner. Jackie also will arrange to get a bio from the VCI consultant.
New Business
Market Study Contract – We mentioned a few items to Peter Fairweather that should be changed in or added to the draft contract that he had provided, but we told him that we would get back to him with all of our feedback.
Business of the Year Nomination – We discussed several businesses that we felt were good candidates for the honor. Jackie indicated that we needed criteria to select a business. Jackie will find out if anyone wanted to take on the project. There is a May 8, 2015 deadline to get the name of the recipient and other key information to the Chamber of Commerce Windham Region.
