Opened Meeting at 6:13 PM
Approval of Minutes: No quorum
Public Present:
Steven Vera attended and participated in our meeting.
New Business:
Adele Hall, an Arts at the Capital Theatre student, has offered to build a Facebook Page for EDC as a community service project. She presented her proposal and preliminary Facebook Page. She has done a great job and has committed 50 hours of her time to complete the project. It will provide a perfect vehicle for us to tell people about the Economic Development Commission, post upcoming events/other items of interest, keep businesses updated on EDC activities and provide links to important sites and information. Our new Facebook page should be live shortly - our thanks again to Adele.
Old Business:
Economic Development
- Tom T. said that Love’s Travel Center (LTC) was hoping to break ground in the spring and that he would contact Sentry Realty to determine the reason for the holdup was with Dunkin Donuts. There was nothing new on the FedEx parking lot expansion.
- Willington Market Study. As Ethan was not at the meeting, members are to email him their comments and suggestions on the draft RFQ he circulated before the meeting. We will schedule a special meeting to discuss the draft in two weeks (possibly November 12). The objective will be to finalize the RFQ at our regular November meeting.
- New Business Activity and Contacts – River Road Veterinarian Center is now open at the former site of Love’s Veterinarian Center.
2014 Open EDC Activities
- Business Directory updates – new businesses include River Road Veterinarian Center, Pastries 4 Pets, Elegant Edge Hair Salon and Spa.
- Welcome Basket’s – Jackie prepared three very attractive welcome baskets for under $10 each. EDC members will distribute them to the three new businesses noted above.
- Business Profiles – ongoing
- EDC Marketing & Promotion – Facebook.
- EDC News/Newsletter – We will use the Willington Word to advertise our new Facebook Page and to mention our successful QuickBooks training in July.
Regarding the Newsletter, we will get an update from Ethan at the next meeting.
2015 Goals
- Business Networking Meeting – no discussion
- Process Mapping – no discussion
Budget & Housekeeping
- EDC Finances – We have $900 on hand.
- Commission vacancies – Steven Vera has agreed to fill the remaining alternate seat and will attend the November 3, 2014 Selectmen’s meeting for appointment.
Meeting adjourned at 7:47 PM. Our next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday November 24, 2014 at 6:00 PM.
