Economic Development Commission Meeting
Meeting Minutes of
January 23, 2012

Opened Meeting at 6:05 pm
Approval of Minutes:
Kim moved to approve the meeting minutes from December 27, 2011. Walt seconded.
All in favor, motion passes.
Old Business:
- Election of Commission Officers – Tabled until our next meeting when Kim has been reappointed to the Commission.
- Business Directory – Kim called the Tolland County Chamber of Commerce to ask them if they could recommend a company to publish our Business Directory and they suggested Atlantic Communications Group from Flourtown, PA. Kim called them and they would like a list of our businesses and then we will discuss creating a Business Directory. After some discussion we all agreed to send the list of Willington Businesses to them. Kim will update list and email it to them this week. We also decided that we should only list Willington Businesses in the directory and for advertisements. We received an email from Tara Bergeron asking if we would consider including the PTA and SEPTO, Town Departments and the schools in the directory. We all thought it would be
a good idea. Kim will let her know. We received seven (7) email replies from the e-blast we sent out to businesses asking if they would like to be included in the Business Directory. We will send another e-blast next month and also include a write up in the Willington Word.
- 2012 Meeting Schedule – passed out to members.
- Business Networking Meeting – We are looking to hold one in mid-April. Jackie will contact a few people and see what she can come up with and Tom will call the Library and see if we can book the Community Room either April 11th or April 25th. Kim will write something up for the Willington Word after plans are made. Tom suggested that we have cards available at the meeting for businesses to fill out to sign up for the Business Directory.
- Love’s Travel Center – present at IWWC’s Public Hearing on January 9, 2012. The Public Hearing was continued until February 13, 2012 at 7:30pm in the upstairs Common Room. We will all try to attend this meeting.
- Welcome Letter for P&Z packet – We all looked over the letter Jackie wrote up a few months back and agreed it was good. Jackie will make a few adjustments and then we will send it to the Building Department to see if it is okay with them. It will then be included in the Welcome Packets for new businesses along with a questioner for businesses to fill out and return to us.
New Business:
- No new business activity has come our way.
- 2012 EDC Budget – We discussed the budget and all agreed to keep it at $900.00 to cover expenses of at least two (2) Business Networking meetings and any training we may wish to attend. Kim will attend the BOF meeting on March 1, 2012.
Public Comment:
- No public present to speak.
Ongoing Activities:
- We have one full seat and two alternate seats open. Kim will email Selectman Mailhos about her brother and will with check with Joann Capo from Curves in Willington.
- We welcomed Tom Treiber to EDC. We all want to thank Dave Charette for his time, his valuable input and his leadership during his tenure with EDC. He will be greatly missed.
Meeting adjourned at 7:41pm.
Next meeting to be held on February 27, 2012 at 6pm.
