WILLINGTON CONSERVATION COMMISSION MEETING
11/16/16 Meeting
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order @ 7:07 pm.
Roll Call: P. Andersen, K. Demers, C. Jordan, B. Shabot.
Approval of Minutes of 10/19/16. On a motion by CJ/BS minutes were approved with the following correction under Finance: “WCC approves the increase in payment to $350 to Ferrucci and Walicki for the educational program provided by forester Eric Hansen.” Unanimous vote.
Present to Speak: NA.
Finance: Treasurer CJ reported $451.40 has been expended from budget YTD. WCC will submit a CIP request for Open Space Funding by 12/16/16.
Old Business
- Open Space Map- CJ continues work on the update and plans to contact M. Cipriano from CROG.
- POCD Update: Discussion was held on CC member attendance at the 11/1/16 Town Meeting. WCC will participate in the PZC’s 1/3/17 “Listening Session” to provide recommendations about Open Space and Natural Resources goals and objectives. Current POCD objectives were reviewed; CC will discuss further at next meeting.
- Natural Resource Inventory /Open Space Conservation Plan – Next CC meeting agenda will be limited to review of the current NRI/OSCP and associated maps in order to prepare comments and recommendations for PZC’s 1/3/17 session.
- Daley Award- Award will be given January 2017. PA will have a plaque made.
- Properties Management
1. Fenton-Ruby Park / Drobney Sanctuary:
Timber harvest: In progress. KD will research company that can help remove
invasive plants noted in harvest site.
Trails/Maintenance: Vandalism noted at kiosk. PA will do repairs. New trail junction and kiosk signs still to be installed. Plaques will be made for Adirondack Chairs donated by William Such.
2. Knowlton Preserve / Talmadge Tract: KD will resupply trail maps and clear
tree that came down on trail as noted by CJ.
3. Peck's Mill: Tabled
F. Town Development: PZC working on updating POCD.
G. Collaborative Organization News & Communication: No reports
H. Other: NA
New Business
- Farmland Protection: PA will contact CT Farm Land Trust for more information on grant option for protecting farm land and prime agricultural soils.
- Other Communications: Dept of Agriculture/Community Forest and Open Space Conservation Program request for grant applications. No action.
