Conservation Commission Minutes 3/18/15
 
                                              WILLINGTON CONSERVATION COMMISSION MEETING
 3/18/2015 Meeting 7:00 P.M.


Call to Order: The meeting was called to order @ 7:05 pm.

Roll Call: P. Andersen, K. Demers, C. Jordan, M. Drobney, M. Schreiber, R. Shabot

Approval of Minutes of 3/18/15: Minutes were approved by MD/RS: 4 ayes, 1 abstain: CJ. KD was not present at approval of minutes.  So moved.  

Present to Speak: Not applicable.

Finance: The balance for FY14/15 is $261.00.   On a motion by CJ/MD: “The WCC approves the payment of $455.00 for bus transportation for the March 14, 2015 Farm, Forest and Natural Resource Expo.” So moved. Unanimous vote.

Old Business
A. Properties Management
1. FRP-DS: Joe and Nate Phillipi have cleaned the duck boxes on Taylor Pond for the upcoming mating season. Thanks to the Phillipi family for their continued support over the years for maintaining the boxes.
Timber Harvest: Correct policies and procedures for this project are being followed in a timely manner.
Memorial Bench: The project is moving forward.
2 .Knowlton Preserve/Talmadge Tract: Projects
Trailhead Parking for the Knowlton Preserve Correct policies and procedures for this project are being followed in a timely manner. PZC is reviewing the issue.
Bridges, Boardwalks: Tabled
3. Peck’s Mill: Tabled
B. Town Development: PZC, IWWC, ZBA: Projects that are in progress were discussed from a conservation viewpoint. No projects have asked WCC for input at this time.
C. Collaborative Organizations:
Willimantic River Alliance: No report.
Joshua’s Trust: No report
Windham County Conservation Consortium: No report.
D. Farm, Forest and Natural Resources Expo: The Expo took place on  March 14, 10-2 pm at the Willington Public Library. There were 3 speakers scheduled, over 20 vendors with informational displays and children’s programming. The attendance at the event was very good and the feedback from the vendors and the public was positive.
E. Wilford Farms. Tabled
F. Hall School parking lot and field stream run-off and erosion No new information.

New Business
  • Communications: Mansfield Ag Committee is looking for Willington participation for a meeting on April 7 to discuss a regional collaboration for a farm viability grant.
Next Meeting:   April 15, 2015.
