WILLINGTON CONSERVATION COMMISSION MEETING
9/18/2013 Meeting
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:12 pm.
Roll Call: K. Demers, C. Jordan, R. Bloom (seated for P. Andersen), K. Pacholski (seated for P. Pribula).
Approval of Minutes: Minutes of 6/19/13 were approved unanimously. No meetings July and August.
Present to Speak: No one was present to speak.
Finance: 2012-13 budget was fully expended. 2013-14 expenses to date: $55 for CACIWC dues with $50 encumbered for Willimantic River Alliance, leaving unencumbered balance of $1,395. No funds for open space were included in the CIP. 6/30/13 balances: Open Space Fund $32, 322; Park and Recreation Capital Fund $11,251.
Old Business
A. Properties Management
FRP-DS:
Trails/ Maintenance: Taylor Pond Trail and open fields need trimming. R. Bloom will pursue with M. Drobney. C. Jordan will draft signage for kiosk reminding public of “Carry-In, Carry-Out” policy and requesting no smoking in the park. Willington Word will be used to publicize need for trail stewards for all properties.
Boundary Marking: Dan Donohue of DBA Natural Resources Consultants LLC has completed marking of west and south boundaries and suggests re-painting boundary blazes. Decision on authorizing additional work deferred to October meeting.
New Trail Guide: Members are asked to go to the park and review the trail guide prior to the October 19th Park Day.
October 19th Park Day: This will be a work day. No Daley Award this year.
Knowlton Preserve/Talmadge Tract: Bridge construction and trailhead parking still pending.
B. Town Development
Love’s Travel Stop: Zone change and travel stop use were approved by PZC.
C. Collaborative Organizations:
Willimantic River Alliance: No report.
Joshua’s Trust: No report.
Windham County Conservation Consortium: No report.
New Business
Communications: CACIWC Annual Meeting will be held Saturday, October 16, 2013. Joshua’s Trust is having a guided hike of the Chenes Roches Preserve at 65 Blair Road on Saturday, September 28th at 10 am. State Representative Sam Belsito will attend October meeting. Thanks to Tish Ignatowicz for updating CC website.
