8/24/10 Meeting Minutes
Call to order:~ K. Demers called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.
Present: K. Demers, M. Drobney, P. Pribula, M. Schreiber, R. Shabot.
Approval of /27/2010 minutes: Approval of minutes on a motion by RS/MS.
2 abstentions: M. D., P. P.
Present to speak: Various Willington residents were present to voice their concern on the proposed Love’s Travel Stop/Polster Road.
Finance: The annual CIP Budget request is due 10/15/10. Wording on the text was discussed and will be forwarded to C. Jordan for completion.
Old Business
FRP-DS:
- Trails Report: Bridge/trail lumber can be hauled to the work sites at any time members have the time. R. Bloom has volunteered for this project.
- Canine Control: Signs. MS will contact Recreation Commission to gauge interest on joint purchase of signs.
Town Development: IWCC Special Meeting on 8/31/2010 to review all material presented for the proposed Love’s Travel Center on Polster Road
Open Space /Easement Monitoring
- Willington Heights: Site Inspection Report on Willington Heights Open Space by John S. Barclay was made available to WCC. Members should read and be ready to comment by next meeting date. 9/17/10 @ 5:30 pm there will be a site walk of Willington Heights to review the site with document in hand. Review is necessary so James Poole who has volunteered stewardship of the parcel has information and guidance on the scope of work that should be performed on the site.
- Peck’s Mill: Willimantic River Alliance requests photos of the mill in all 4 seasons to add to their website.
- Roaring Brook Area: tabled
Programs: Park Day/ Daley Award date is 10/16. Award nominees were discussed. The next Star Party dates are 10/29, 10/30 & 11/06 (7:00 – 9:00 pm.)
Collaborative Organizations
- Willimantic River Alliance: Meeting on 8/25/10.
- Joshua’s Trust: No news.
- Windham County Conservation Consortium: No news.
Knowlton Purchase Update: A closing date for the purchase is being set by the attorneys.
Map Hangers Update: C Jordan will check on the details for hanging the maps in the meeting room from the new map hanging system.
Willington Flea Market: There will not be a booth representing the WCC at this year’s event. The reserved space will be assigned to Christine Psathas. A contribution to the Willington Open Space fund will be made by Ms. Psathas.
