01/26/10 Meeting Minutes
Call to order:~ P. Andersen called the meeting to order at 7:07 PM.
Present: P. Andersen, P. Pribula, K. Demers, C. Jordan, M. Drobney, R. Shabot Absent : M. Schreiber, L. Centola, R. Bloom
Approval of 11/24/09 minutes. Approved. Abstaining: CJ, PP, MD (The December meeting was cancelled.)
Present to speak: Evan Brand, Chris Demers
Treasurers Report: Discussion of FY 2010-2011 Budget. Motion by KD, 2nd by PB to request the same as the 2009-2010 budget at $2000. Unanimous approval.
Old Business
FRP-DS:
- Trails Report: All trails are reported to be in good shape.
CC Website: LC has added info and will be continuing updates on the website.
Town Development: No news.
Open Space /Easement Monitoring
- Willington Heights: Work is continuing on the open space lot management. There have been no recent intrusions on the property.
- Peck’s Mill: No news.
Programs: Chris Demers presented a proposed program and activity schedule.
- “Intro. To Animal Tracking”: Feb.13, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm at FRP. Motion by CJ, 2nd by KD to confirm expenditure of $125 to P. Coughlin to lead the event. Unanimous approval.
- “A Star Gazing Party”: March 12 and 13, 7:00 pm at FRP, courtesy of P. Pribula.
- “Reading the Forest Landscape”: May 1, 2:00 - 3:30 at FRP. Motion by MD, 2nd by RS to expend $125 for J. Barclay to lead the event. Unanimous approval.
Collaborative Organzations
- Windham County Conservation Consortium: KD will attend the next meeting.
- Willimantic River Assoc: Motion by C J, 2nd by PP for a $50 dues contribution to WRA. Unanimous.
- Joshua’s Trust: A conservation easement on 60 acres on Jared Sparks Rd is in the works.
Knowlton Purchase Update: Survey and property description are being processed by DEP.
AT&T Telecomm Tower on Rte 74: No news.
CIP Request for FY’10 – ’11: CJ submitted a request for long-term open space funding.
Sign Workshop: PA, PP, MS and Evan Brand attended a presentation in Mansfield on 01/19/10 given by John Monroe from the National Park Service on directional, advisory and interpretive signage that provides appropriate and effective information about publicly accessible resources.
New Business
Communications: 1) Articles for the spring issue of The Willington Word are due Feb. 5. PA and Chris Demers will work on Commission activities for April, May and June. 2) The DEP has a new website containing maps and tools for anyone interested in assessing development and natural resources in CT. The site is www.ctecol.uconn.edu.
Other: Evan Brand was unanimously approved as an alternate Commission member. PA will request his appointment by the BOS.
