Attendees:  Alex Hay, Curt Felix, Bob Larsen, Hillary Greenberg-Lemos, Lezli Rowell, Paul Gabriel and Paul Millett, ,Christine Bates, Committee Secretary

Regrets:  Ned Hitchcock

Alex Hay called the meeting to order at 2:34 am.

There will be a joint meeting with the Board of Health in July to discuss the quality of the ponds and provide educational material available for the public.  

Oyster project:  no additional information.  Andy Koch advised Alex Hay to place the shells on his barge which he will then disburse.  Alex stated there is a window when the cultch can be placed in the harbor.  Linda Noons informed Alex she will be ready to deliver shells to the transfer station.

Summary of Meeting with Rick York:  Curt Felix reported that York’s area is very small and he grows his own seed, disburses the seed, and then does water quality monitoring.  He stated  York feels dissolved oxygen levels are more important to monitor than nitrates.  Gabriel stated the importance of coordinating with other towns/scientists for the monitoring equipment needed and sharing information.  York shared some of his data with Felix.  

Hay reported the Wellfleeter Condo’s will allow the committee to utilize their monitors once they are hooked up to town water.  Millett suggested utilizing the water well at Harbor Condominiums located on Commercial Street for monitoring.  Rowell suggested sending a letter to the private owners stating there would be no liability for the Condominium owners for the data or use of the data by the town..    


Summary of Meeting with Dan Wolf.  Alex met with Wolf and stated he is very receptive and excited about the oyster restoration.   

Curt stated DMF will be issuing new draft regulations regarding oyster restoration projects in Massachusetts that should be helpful for efforts in Mashpee, Falmouth and Wellfleet.

Millett stated he would contact DEP to bring them up to date in the pilot study.  A meeting will be scheduled.   

Upcoming meeting with Falmouth, Mashpee, Wellfleet and Andrew Gottlieb:  Combined Legislative/Regulatory Effort.  Andrew Gottlieb had not responded regarding a meeting.  


April 27, 20911 meeting with Hillary Greenberg-Lemos, Curt Felix, Patty Daley, Anne Reynolds of the Cape Cod Commission re:  Long Term Monitoring and Data Acquisition for MEP compliance.  Felix stated they will try to get USDA to pay for the extension for ongoing data collection and monitoring.   The Commission has staff and resources, allowing us to gather information from them and find out what and how they are gathering data.    

New business

Mayo Beach / Beach Sticker Building.   – Chair Hay stated the Commission needs to get an input from all the “players”, (i.e. Beach, Recreation, Harbor, Shellfish, etc.) and find out what their needs are.   Agent Greenberg-Lemos will set up individual meetings.  A letter needs to be sent to the Building Needs Committee.  


Harborfest Booth – June 11, 2011, The Committee agreed to have brochures/educational literature available for handouts to the public..      

Alex Hay will determine late spring / summer meeting schedule

Lezli Rowell moved to approve the 04/12/11 meeting minutes as edited; seconded by Curt Felix; passed 4-0.   

Lezli Rowell moved to elect Curt Felix as Vice Chair; seconded by Robert Larsen; passed 4-0.

Bob Larsen moved to adjourn at 3:55 pm; seconded by Alex Hay; passed 4-0.
