Members Present: Alex Hay, Curt Felix, Ned Hitchock, Hillary Greenberg-Lemos

Others Present: Paul Millet, Paul Gabriel, CLF Ventures (Jo Anne)

Meeting Minutes: March 8, 2011 Approved with changes presented by Curt Felix

CLF Ventures
Jo Anne from CLF Ventures was present and is very excited about working with Wellfleet.  Their organization brings sound science and environmental process to the table.   They are a subsidiary of CLF charged with finding solutions and partnering with organizations to bring about environmental change.   CLF is concerned about conflict of interest and perception issues. Some of the legal issues raised are as follows: Is Wellfleet currently in a situation of TMDL noncompliance; John Teal is a board member of CLF Ventures and also is part of our consulting team; CLF Ventures will not disclose information from CLF but can transmit information from our Committee back to CLF (one way fire wall).  Jo Ann will provide these issues in writing so that the committee can review the specifics and see if the relationship as described will work.  Perception issues include: poor press for CLF; negative discussions in public forums.  Discussion ensued on TMDL’s and oyster populations, this may become a future conflict for CLF Ventures.

Gabriel inquired from Jo Ann whether they thought they could participate in policy discussions on natural remediation of nitrogen utilizing oysters.  Jo Ann will go back to CLF Ventures and inquire about this issue with the advocacy division of CLF.

BOS Meeting
Committee members discussed the BOS meeting to be held tonight and main talking points to bring up.  An outline was provided by Felix.  Hay will give the opening remarks and EPG will be present to answer any questions that may arise.

Forum
Felix has been working on the program.  Boze Hancock (TNC), Rick York (Mashpee Shellfish Warden), Annamarie Frankic (UMASS Boston), and Andy Koch will be the speakers.  The main topic is to be natural nitrogen remediation through oyster cultivation and propagation.   Felix will be the moderator and he is also seeking sponsorship from the NRAB, SPAT, BOH.  Elected Representatives will be personally invited.  The date will be June 6 or 13, 2011 at 7:00pm at the COA. Felix will work on the press release.

Marina Update
Nothing new to update at this time

Cultching
A meeting has been scheduled with Any Koch to look at Duck Creek.   Koch will place the seed and Annamarie will study the nutrient uptake.  No new permits are needed to place the SPAT in this location.  It would be great to set some data loggers in this area to document salinity and nitrogen.

Grants
Nothing new to update.  Millet made two calls to CZM but heard nothing back as of today.

Ned Hitchcock motioned to adjourn 4:15 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Christine A. Bates
