Minutes

An emergency meeting of the Board of Selectmen was called to order at 12:00 noon by Chairman Ira Wood.  Selectmen present included Michael May, Dale Donovan.  Selectman Jerry Houk was absent.  Selectwoman Helen Miranda Wilson arrived at 12:04 p.m.  Town Administrator Tim Smith also attended.

Wood indicated that this meeting had been called to consider closing Town Hall for the National Day of Mourning for former President Ronald Reagan.

The Town Administrator indicated that he had spoken with the union presidents who agreed to use compensatory time in lieu of overtime pay.  He noted that the Police and Fire Departments would remain open as well as the Transfer Station, Beach Sticker Building and Library for scheduled programs.  He indicated that most Federal and State Offices were closing as well as  Post Offices and the stock market but that local schools would remain open.

On a motion by Donovan, seconded by Wilson, to remain open and to thank the unions for their cooperation and to encourage those who wish to observe the day to take a personal day off, the Board voted 2-2, with Wood and May voting against.

On a motion by Donovan, seconded by Wilson, to close for the National Day of Mourning, the Board voted 2-2, with Donovan and Wilson voting against.

On a motion by Wilson, seconded by Donovan, the Board voted unanimously to adjourn at 12:18 p.m.
