03/14/11 Natural Resources Advisory Board
Natural Resources Advisory Board Minutes
March 14 2011
THHR
Attending: John Riehl, John Duane, Ned Hitchcock
Ø       Meeting called to order 7.05 pm
Ø       Riehl announced that he would present the Ponds Plan to the Board of Selectmen on 3/22. (letter attached)
Ø       Brief discussions took place on several topics:
o       Members. New members needed. All agreed to ask interested parties
o       Herring. The Friends of Herring River herring count for 2011 would begin with a volunteers meeting on 3/14 with the actual count on 4/1
o       Harbor dredging project awaits completion of terrapin turtle study
o       A Mayo Creek hydrology report by the WHG is complete. The report shows that 20 acres of restoration is feasible simply by removing the duck bill collar on the harbor side of the culvert. A public presentation of this plan is planned. The next phase of the Mayo Creek project would be pre-restoration ground water monitoring.
o       Wastewater. The plan to start an oyster reef at the mouth of Duck Creek is proceeding with funding supported by NRAB.
o       Town Warrant. No issues.
o       Coastal & Pond Access. The old Coastal and Pond Access Committee is no longer functioning. John DiBlasio approached Riehl about NRAB taking over this function. Riehl noted that this would be consistent with both the HMP and PMP, which contained access discussions. Any decision is referred to a future meeting.
o       Request received from Audubon Wellfleet Bay to support a grant application to Disney for oyster reef restoration. NRAB voted 3-0 to support this application, with the Chair being authorized to draft a letter (attached)
Meeting adjourned at 8.20 pm
Approved:       September 26 2011                                       Signed: John Riehl, Chair
