Board of Health Minutes 10/23/08
Wellfleet Board of Health
Minutes of Emergency Meeting of  October 23, 2008
DPW Conference Room, 5:00 p.m.

Present:  Richard Willecke,  Lezli Rowell, Ken Granlund and Agent Hillary Greenberg.
Chair Willecke called the meeting to order at 5:00 pm.

Chair Willecke gave a history of the study done for the lead removal at the Boy Scout Camp.  He stated that the separation to ground water averages 1 ½’ and that while it is not yet contaminated, it is only a matter of time until it will be.  If the clean up is done within a year, the Town will not have to pay filing fees with the State.  He stated that the clean up has to be done soon because the current water system cannot use the water tower; it will not generate enough flow with the current pipes.  The Board discussed the fact that the Board of Health did not receive information in a timely manner.  Rowell stated that the Baord must act to protect the water issues and water supplies.  Willecke stated that Paul Sieloff has hopes of establishing a water enterprise fund program which would ultimately be self-sustaining.

If the lead contaminates the surface water, Agent Greenberg stated that it could be hazardous in the area for people walking their dogs, reptiles and animals in the area.  The area was at one time a vernal pool.

Willecke moved to support Article 2, removing the lead from the Boy Scout Camp; seconded by Rowell, passed 3-0.

Ken Granlund again expressed his concern with not receiving proper information in a timely manner.
Lezli Rowell moved to adjourn at 5:25 pm; seconded by Ken Granlund; passed 3-0.

Respectfully submitted,

Christine A. Bates
Committee Secretary
