Wayland Becomes a Purple Heart Community
As you drive through Wayland, you may notice some new signs at the town's borders designating Wayland as a Purple Heart Community.

The signs are the culmination of a program sponsored by the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Department of Massachusetts, and the national organization in order to get all three hundred and fifty-one Massachusetts cities and towns designated as Purple Heart Communities. Wayland became a Purple Heart Town in May of 2015, making this one of the most Veteran friendly towns in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The process started with a Proclamation approved by the Board of Selectmen, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Massachusetts State Legislature, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation District Three.  Installation of these signs was performed by the Wayland Department of Public Works.  Richard Turner, Chair of the Public Ceremonies Committee and a recipient of the Purple Heart, said that it was an honor and a privilege to be able to see this project come to fruition.  Mr. Turner and the Town of Wayland wish to thank everyone who was involved.
